ABC has finished with its collection of Poirot episodes and is moving on to play old episodes of Sherlock Holmes. I thought, "Hah, I might give that look. I like detectives, it sounds like fun." I've never read a book of Sherlock Holmes, but I've heard a *lot* about him, obviously.

That's the episode.

Woooow. Those guys are SO gay for each other. Holy fucking shit. Is Holmes supposed to be that creepy? What really cracked me up about this guy is that the actor that plays him reminds me strongly of Colin Lane, the comedian who was in Lano and Woodley.

But yeah, Holmes - so utterly gay, he makes Poirot look like John Wayne.

I thoroughly enjoyed it though. And the casual opiate use is also pretty funny - not that it's supposed to be, but you know. I just love how it's like, "Oh, Holmes, not again!" Like he's drunk half a bottle of vodka and vomited in the pot plant again. HE JUST SHOT HIMSELF UP WITH HEROIN, YO. God I love the attitude to opiates in those centuries. Just love how morality changes like that, it's really interesting to me from a sociological standpoint.

Anyway, yes, I shall try to catch more episodes of this show, it's funny.

That, dear, would be Jeremy Brett, widely considered to be THE Sherlock Holmes.

You can see him visibly deteriorating in later episodes from a combination of his heart and bipolar meds. It's upsetting.

Well, he already looks pretty sepulchural in the first ep, truth be told.

I can see why. There was one scene in this first episode that was so bloody adorable-cute and homely that I just wanted to hug those fuckers. Such a happy little gay crime-fighting couple. Holy shit.

I love love looooove Poirot. Agatha Christie is so awesome.
I haven't been able to enjoy Sherlock Holmes after reading Christie.
One of these days when I have lots of money I'm buying every Christie DVD in existence...

My family couldn't understand why I enjoyed the movie so much.

The slash as an answer, doesn't make a lot of sense to them. Even when dad decides to tell us all about how they're 'definitely' gay because he watched a documentary about that once. :P

I'm pretty sure ACD was pretty dead-against the idea. But unfortunately for writers (or perhaps fortunately?) our creations have a habit of running away from us and taking on lives of their own in the public consciousness (if we're lucky!). A lot of people love the gay subtext, whether he meant it or not!

You should read the stories. Watson getting hurt leads to one of the only times you see Holmes truly upset. And when Holmes turns up again after supposedly being killed--well, Watson's reaction is both priceless and telling. I love those two! And I agree, you should definitely see the RDJ/JL movie, because they're Hawt.

I had that impression. I was thoroughly charmed by him by the end of the episode. He's a jerk but he's awesome.

I love Jeremy Brett as Sherlock Holmes! I'm still mad our one channel that played Sherlock Holmes, Poirot and Midsomer Murders won't play any of them again. Good thing my local library has tons of the episodes on DVDs. Jeremy Brett also played Freddy Hill in the movie My Fair Lady. Totally pointless information.

OMG, I LOVE the Jeremy Brett Sherlock Holmes! Hands down the best Holmes ever.

FYI: there's something like 7 volumes of DVDs of his Holmes, so it should keep you busy for awhile if they show all of them. :D

See, that's my Holmes, the one I had a huge crush on from the books when I was a young teen - RDJ's Holmes is fun to watch (and OH, so slashy *g*), but very OOC!

Edit: I know the abbreviations, I really do. :P
