As you graduate to higher levels in the game, you earn various goodies, just like you get more treasure and cooler toys in Worlds of Warcraft. The way you rise to higher levels is to meet specific weight goals. I wouldn't participate in the damned thing, but for those who want to, I can see that sort of positive-sanction being effective.
