Stayed up all night reading Harry Potter first book and finished it. In one night. Now steal second book off little sister (Miss, "I saw the first movie I don't need to read the first book") and read more. Wow. I like, liketh muchly.

Don't understand Snape thing though. Sure, he did nice things but still is asshole.

Jo will kill me. I *love* Harry and Hermione. Weee.

Trust me Nance, after reading the first book I thought Snape was intriguing but wasn't crazy for the nasty bastard. By the fourth I was hooked on him, for reasons you'll see in the next few books. And I *do* really like Harry and Hermione...I just also like Snape, and prefer reading fanfic about him. I still giggle when the kids get one up on him though. :-)

And your sister so *does* need to read the first book. There are little things in there that come up in later books which they didn't mention in the first movie--ie. Why Snape Hates Harry, and the name of a character who will be VERY important as of the third book.

The books are addictive, aren't they? I hope Book 5 comes out on a weekend when I can safely stay up all night reading it--as if the Chapters store near us stays open to midnight so that Potter fans can get their copies at the earliest possible moment, I'll definitely be there. Damn JKR for teasing us with teeny bits of info about the next few books

I think the Snape that fans adore is partly fanon and partly Rickman Appeal. Though I haven't read any HP fanfic yet -- just the books -- so I don't know for sure.
