This post about H/G and Harry's personality...
Metatrix, you've won free, immediate entry into the harryhermione community. You may pick up your free pumpkin goodies by the door and mind your step - we're hiding out in the dungeons these days.
Cheers,
Nancy.
(Unless auliana already added you and I missed it cause this was a painfully long time ago - I was hiding from HPdom at the time, forgive me...)

This one is non-shippy, it's just about the percieved quality of JKR's writing, the reaction of some people (mainly H/Hrs) to the book and how it's possible that not just H/Hrs will be bitching about the following book if certain trends in the 6th book and JKR's exposition in interviews is any indication...
Posted months ago but I only saw it now. What surprised me is it actually got fandom_wanked, but it's a perfectly lucid and logical warning.
~~*~~
On a totally unrelated note, Daniel Radcliffe said recently in an interview:
"I'm a typical guy in that I don't know what girls like to do on dates. Paintballing? I don't know."
Uhm... Dan? Marry me? Seriously? I WISH BOYS TOOK ME PAINTBALLING!! (Though I would be quoting Spaced like mad...)
~~*~~
And finally (and possibly hypocritically), a little something from
commodorified that I gacked from a post by
fyrdrakken
"And of course, my personal Four Laws:
It's Not Nice To Poke Crazy People With A Stick,
It's Not Like If They Won The Argument I'd Change So Why Am I Doing This,
Fandom Is Not Your Personal Validation machine, Nor Yet Mine, and
Some People just Like To Bully Others, Don't Play With Them
tend to trump, well, most things online for me."

Date: 2005-10-27 08:49 am (UTC)After I reluctantly saw the second movie in the cinema, I went and hired the first, and read the books published up until that date. I decided that it was actually a very good thing, and that for once the media had grown a clue and backed something for a reason other than money.
And then I read book five. And then I had people tell me about book six. Couldn't agree with no_remorse more.

Date: 2005-10-27 08:59 am (UTC)Then book six came along and it was. And yet I love these characters I'd been writing with other people for so long, and I thought, "Fuck it. It's mass delusion, and we're all having fun with it. Who's to say we can have our fun?"
Yeah. But I'm not going to mindlessly say that JKR is the fucking shit cause OMG everything she writes is perfect.

Date: 2005-10-29 01:27 am (UTC)But yeah, I was angry at the way they portrayed us to JKR. I'd love to tell her that I don't hate Ron, that I am perfectly fine with H/G if she'd only written it in a different way, and that I wasn't a fucking lunatic.

Date: 2005-10-29 01:34 am (UTC)I happen to love Ron. And Hermione. Just not together. And I'd like Ginny to be more then a plot device, too. Cedric got more development. Which goes to show Cedric/Harry - theirlovewassodoomed.

Date: 2005-10-27 09:09 am (UTC)A question I've been meaning to ask. There's really a bunch of people running around who call themselves fandom_wanked that crash LJ communities (and individual LJ's) and spew bile about what a bunch of idiots the community in general are for their brand of fandom?
I've been hoping I've taken stuff you've written the wrong way but it sounds so much like the human species that I want to buy a big gun.

Date: 2005-10-27 09:19 am (UTC)They have rules there. The generally accepted ettiquette is that you only wank public entries, that you never troll the person's journal, but you CAN go over to that person's journal and argue with them (as in, "Don't you know you're being a complete tit?" even if they're not.)
There's all sorts of pretty rules (That you can read here (http://www.journalfen.net/userinfo.bml?user=fandom_wank)) but in the end, the real experience of wankerage is far less friendly, witty and urbane than some pro-wankers might say.
It usually ends up like you say. Hordes of people attacking someone's journal and telling them how stupid they think you are. I've seen people brought to tears from this. I've seen people shut down entire journals from it. Sometimes, yes, the journal really is terrible but I tend to have the belief that while you're free to disagree with people, you're not free to make their online lives a living hell. The freedom of speech thing does not include harrassment.
So, in short, the answer is 'yes'. It does exist and it does happen. Want that gun?

Date: 2005-10-27 03:55 pm (UTC)I suppose part of it is I'm not a Potter shipper at all. I don't give a fig whether Harry ends up with Ginny, Hermione or even Luna, fer cryin' out loud. That part of the books means so little to me. If forced to think about who I'd like with whom, well, I'm afraid I would end up with Ron/Hermione (there's kind of a Joxer/Gabby vibe there and they're easily my two favourite characters in the books), but I really don't care that much. Jeez, they're just a bunch of kids anyway. In the long run, they're more likely to "end up" with someone they meet after life at school.
Also, I have very few specific expectations about the future of the books. I personally think that Snape will end up being one of the good guys and in on everything (but probably still a jerk). But I don't expect it to turn out that way. I'm willing to be surprised on that point.
I also don't think Rowling's an especially great writer and at this point don't expect her to be. She writes her novels too much like scripts.
J, if you're gonna write a script, write a script! Not a novel!
However, having said that, I still feel she's a great storyteller. I still love these stories and will still buy the last couple of books (I haven't got my own copy of HPB yet) and still see all the movies... and I expect I will still look back fondly on them years later.
And I'm not going to get started on the whole "moral relativism" mentioned in the artical. I don't even know what that means. Which probably makes me an uneducated slob. But I think it might also mean I'm not over-analysing the series.
I just don't get all the fuss.
Hope I haven't been out of line anywhere in that incoherent mess.

Date: 2005-10-27 04:21 pm (UTC)I guess that's what it's all boiling down to. I do think of myself as a "fan" of the series. But I guess there's "fan" and then there's "fan".
