I'm a dork...
Feb. 21st, 2012 03:53 pmWhen I watch episodes of Bob Ross' "The Joy of Painting", I get sad when he invites the viewer to come to demonstrations in "your area" to meet him. He's so friendly, he says, "I'd love to meet you and see your paintings" and I think, I'll never get to talk to him, cause he's dead.
And even though I don't really use his exact technique, and I'm a portrait painter, and I work in acrylic, I still get so much out of watching him paint. I wish I could tell him that. Watching him invite the viewer reminds me that I can't, and it's sad, cause he seemed like the kind of guy that would get a kick out of hearing about how he's helped you.
Maybe I'll have to send my thoughts into the aether instead. You've helped me, Bob, just by being enthusiastic. And reminding me why we paint in the first place - cause we love it.
