How sick can you get?
Mar. 26th, 2009 09:46 pmJust a random question:
How sick can you get from face-paint? I bought some "Body Art" body paint, and some "Fair ground stall" grade face paint. I thought it would be good for the character I'm going as to the Masquerade Ball at Swancon this year. I thought I'd do a test run of the make-up. I had to put barrier cream on first, so I did.
Everything was going swimmingly until I started painting with the fair ground stall grade stuff, the stuff that demands that you use barrier cream before using it because it might stain your face. At that point I felt nauseous, dizzy, and all-round craphouse. I got anxious from the feeling, and it triggered what I call my body's "EXTANT TOXINS" response. It makes me want to barf and I usually end up sitting on the toilet for half an hour.
I am honestly baffled as to whether this was a reaction to the face paint, or whether it was the inevitable tide of my bowels hitting me at an uncomfortable and inopportune moment.
All I know is I spent good money on face paint I won't use, but I will probably use on other people at some point. I am never buying anything but Kryolan stage make-ups again because I have had that shit all over my face and never once did it stain OR make me feel ill or demand I use barrier cream. All I wanted to do was sweat and I couldn't. The skin of my face felt like it was suffocating.
God damn. I've become the hyper-sensitive granola-munching lesbian feminist cat-lady that everyone warned me about.
