Just a random question:

How sick can you get from face-paint? I bought some "Body Art" body paint, and some "Fair ground stall" grade face paint. I thought it would be good for the character I'm going as to the Masquerade Ball at Swancon this year. I thought I'd do a test run of the make-up. I had to put barrier cream on first, so I did.

Everything was going swimmingly until I started painting with the fair ground stall grade stuff, the stuff that demands that you use barrier cream before using it because it might stain your face. At that point I felt nauseous, dizzy, and all-round craphouse. I got anxious from the feeling, and it triggered what I call my body's "EXTANT TOXINS" response. It makes me want to barf and I usually end up sitting on the toilet for half an hour.

I am honestly baffled as to whether this was a reaction to the face paint, or whether it was the inevitable tide of my bowels hitting me at an uncomfortable and inopportune moment.

All I know is I spent good money on face paint I won't use, but I will probably use on other people at some point. I am never buying anything but Kryolan stage make-ups again because I have had that shit all over my face and never once did it stain OR make me feel ill or demand I use barrier cream. All I wanted to do was sweat and I couldn't. The skin of my face felt like it was suffocating.

God damn. I've become the hyper-sensitive granola-munching lesbian feminist cat-lady that everyone warned me about.

Personally,I think the warning it could stain the skin would be a red light to me.I used to make my own facepaint by mixing poster paint with cheap moisturiser.I used it to facepaint kids and it did the trick.
Pony says her fur protects her so she can't help.

Yeah, it sounds like there's an ingredient in there that doesn't agree with you. :(

Is there a warning about reactions on there container? If not, maybe the company should be informed...

No, there isn't. Just an instruction that barrier cream should be used, which it was.

Was it the barrier cream that was the problem?

I can't do face paint because of allergy type stuff, I think. That or my mum said that to stop me painting my face green all over and declaring "I'm a Christmas tree!" like I once did. (true story)

Can you search the internet for maybe sensitive skin type face paints?

Well, I was just thinking of buying Kryolan cause they've never bothered me before.

Did it distract you from your facepaint related sickness? I found the picture vaguely amusing, and thought it might amuse you too. No ill will intended.

I have no idea. I eat the gluten-free equivalent of gluten-free muesli.

It's slightly-honey flavoured cardboard. *sob*

"hyper-sensitive granola-munching lesbian feminist cat-lady"?

I wouldn't have you any other way than you are, my dear. That's what attracted me in the first place. Also - Awwww, sorry the facepaints made you both feel so crapulent.

How expensive are the Kryolans over the others anyway?
