Okay, so I know I've been silent for like, two days. What happened was that our power went down on Monday during the STORM FROM HELL, and then the lightning did an encore performance by frying the FUCK out of our lovely new modem. We are now using a new one, but it's not as nice as the last one.

Damage? As follows:

- One 800 dollar Casio composer keyboard had the Niagra Falls of ceiling leaks rain into it, right into the top of it. It is now draining and drying for a couple of weeks. No idea if it'll ever work again.

- One expensive power converter for American voltage equipment I might need to buy online (like a fucking hair-dryer that I didn't realise was coming from the US till I'd already bought the fucker)

- Drawing pads and books that cost 15 bucks a blow.

- 2 Magpies. One was downed in around the corner from my house, and another is limping in my yard when it comes to say hello. My regular magpie friends are GONE. I haven't seen them for two days and I'm worried sick about them. The crows are also missing. I have hope that, being very smart birds, they've merely moved one somewhere safer until this storm has passed.

- My sanity. DO YOU KNOW HOW LOUD IT IS WHEN THAT MUCH LARGE HAIL FALLS ON A TIN ROOF? HOLY FUCKING SHIT. Scotty is going to have video up before long, as will I.

My Fourth Doctor painting was also rained on, but it's an acrylic painting. Acrylic paints these days are tough as dogs elbows, so I'm pretty sure he's fine. Either way, I'm really bummed out about the keyboard, and don't know what I'll do if it's broken forever. I guess I'll have to save up all over again for a new one. I am never, EVER going to get that fucking mobility scooter. :(

Cats - all fine. Lenny was a bit freaked out by the noise, Rogue was also utterly terrified. Melma was rather amused by our antics and happily licked herself in the lounge as armageddon went on around her. She's deaf. Hailstones from Hell are no bother to her.

Oh, and I ate about half a dozen hailstones. They tasted like Evian.

ETA: http://au.news.yahoo.com/thewest/a/-/mp/6969131/residents-capture-storms-fury/ Some video of what went on. Not really that bad in the scheme of things. The media here is overreacting like WOAH. The butthead Premier said it was a "Natural disaster". Uhm... nobody died. There was a lot of ice, a lot of smashed windscreens and some injured wildlife. Good Lord!

It's okay. I got to eat ice from the sky. That's a novelty when you're from Perth. :-P (Can you tell I'm trying valiantly to keep a sense of humour about all this?)

Well... I'm glad that your painting is OK at least, and that you're reconnected with the world (finally).

Er, from a geographical perspective (and a hazard management perspective) people don't actually have to die for it to be declared natural disaster. What it does do is make it easier to get funding (from various sources) for infrastructure to be rebuilt and compensated for (at public, private, business and individual levels).

So I do think the dude did the right thing.

Yep, it's an administrative thing, like properly declaring war.

That video of the hailstorm was terrifying. OMG. Does WA normally have 30-degree temps in mid-March? That would be a sweltering temp here in mid-September, but our climate is very different than Perth's (e.g. snow 3-4 months of the year).

Honestly, after the 38-40 for the past few weeks, 30 feels positively chilly. I want to go for a swim before it gets really cold, but I can't stand swimming at this temp, it's too cold for me!

Yes, our weather is normally at this temp in March. It dips down in the next month, though.

I'm sorry about the havoc the storm wreaked on you and your things but I'm glad you're ok!
