right, so the perception is racist, not the intention (as it wouldn't have been making black people into clowns had the performers been exactly as they were minus black face makeup)

I find it amusing that most of the "excuses" boil down to "they do it so why can't we too/they did it first"

the performance in itself wasn't racist, the fact that they were performed with the black face makeup was.
