Channel Nine have a TV show called "Random Acts of Kindness". It's glurge, as Snopes.com define it, but fuck if it isn't the kind of glurge that makes me feel a little better about everything. They just spoilt silly a hair stylist who donated her kidney to a client on dialysis. The woman was so fucking sweet, it's adorable.

Now they're going to spoil an old man who delivers meals on wheels, even though he's probably old enough to get it sent to him himself. Oh, he's been sending it for forty years, and he drives his blind daughter around. HEhehehe! Oh you should see his damned face now that he's been surprised. It's adorable! His face when he met his cricketing hero was gold! So sweet!

ETA4: Apparently, they're exploitative bastards. Typical. (See comments)

ETA: AH! FUCK YOU NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC! FUCK YOU WITH THE DYING BABY IBEXES! *sobs*
ETA2: The narrator just pronouched "machismo" like this: "Ma-CHEESE-mo". ... Ew!
ETA3: Rogue is now watching the ibex fight with great interest.
ETA5: This National Geographic documentary on Ibix? REALLY FUCKING DEPRESSING, YO.

No, in this case, TV does NOT get it right. This show chose a local humane animal shelter as one of it's cases. Pets Haven, in Woodend, rescues dogs and cats from around Victoria, in some cases from other shelters where the animals were about to be put down. The show came in, and "renovated" the place. The changes they have made do NOT comply with the council regulations and have landed the shelter with a $30,000 bill to "fix" the problems they have created. As far as I am aware, Channel 9 have failed to stand up and accept the problems they have created, nor have they offered to pay to fix them. I would love to be made aware of them doing this, but living in the next town up in the same council area, where this story made the front page of the local paper, I've heard nothing.

Random Act renovations "fail industry standard"

I'm just horrified by the whole thing. If the shelter can't come up with the $30K, they're going to have to close. They're begging the local community for donations, offering people "credit" at the shelter. I desperately hope they're able to resolve it.
