Okay, so there's this chick that's been doing these cable tv spots for about a year now. Her name is Sarah Haskins. And boy, is she a hit amongst the Feminist Blogosphere! She takes on everything that us women have to deal with - daytime TV, personalities, stupid skin care ads, weddings, diets, online dating, chocolate! Her segment is called Target Women. Here's a sample:

I have said to men in the past, "Expensive girl gifts and weddings are a waste of time. Buy me something I can use." Result? I got a DS for my birthday last year. (Yeah, Paul was an awesome boyfriend.)

Seriously though, when I get married (if I get married), it's a park wedding with a celebrant and a nice huge extended family barbecue with pink balloons or something. There might be a nice honeymoon in a hotel down south or something (nice holiday places right here in Australia, no huge expense needed). I'd rather save the money for a house or stuff for eventual children, etc.

I prefer daily thoughtful things, like getting me my heat pack, or reminding me my favourite tv show is on, or sending me an email while they're at work saying how much they miss me or just talking or something. If I have that, I don't need no stinkin' diamond.

That is/was an awesome boyfriend. I &hearts my DS.

That sounds both practical and romantic of you. I approve, and I think Target Woman would as well.

Oh, definitely. The little stuff is where the rubber meets the road and it's ultimately way more important than a hunk of carbon.
