Fun with prophylactics!
Jul. 24th, 2008 04:56 amOkay. So it's now about 20 hours or so since they popped that coil of hormoney goodness into my little sac of pain. I was *right* in the middle of a period when they did this. Bleeding, cramps, the whole nine yards. Here are the phases I've gone through in the past day:
Phase One: Coming Out of Anaesthetic
- Cramping around the implant. Painful, sore, and every time I get a full bladder or colon, it presses against the uterus and HURTS LIKE FRIGGING HELL.
- Wooziness from the drugs. I was given some opioid that began with the letter "T", Teh... Try... something. I don't remember - I asked when I was coming out of anaesthetic. (Don't ask me why I ask these questions - I'm too curious or something).
- Mood dips as the drugs wore off.
Phase Two: Sitting Around At Home Getting Used To Shit
- More cramping, yay! No, it's really fucking hurting now.
- Sharp pains start joining in around my abdomen. It's just like the pains I had when I was coming out of the last general I had when I had the laparoscopy. I remember Dr. Karen telling me that it's common with opioids to feel sore in the guts when coming off them.
- Still tired as hell.
Phase Three: What The Hell Is My Body Up To Now?!
- Cramping has subsided (for now).
- Sharp pains have taken over. All through my abdomen is killing me.
- Back is starting to hurt - that is really weird. Back pain, from shoulder-blades to dip in middle of back.
- I've stopped bleeding. There's no period blood. I don't know if this is my usual 'pause' in the middle of my period, or whether my poor uterus has gone into shock.
So yes... this Mirena thing is surely an adventure. O_O Hopefully things will improve from here on in. I really want this to work. I want to have a shot at getting busy with things again.

Date: 2008-07-24 01:29 am (UTC)Nacey, I hope the Mirena works for you! You really deserve a break from this crap. *hugs* Here's hoping the pain your in now is just your body adjusting and it will settle down in time.
You know, the middle back pain thing sounds like something I get sometimes. I've got no idea what it is, but I've started to consider it a variant on the usual lower-abdominal endo pains because I can't think what else would cause it. Is it like a sort of deep, dull ache? I found that having someone rub my back in big circles or lying flat with my electric blanket turned up high helped a lot with that, but my usual painkillers didn't tend to have an effect.
Good luck!

Date: 2008-07-24 12:20 pm (UTC)Actually, the funny thing is that during that time when the pain went away, I started to think I imagined the whole thing or maybe I was just a whiny teenager who had no clue what pain was yet. Until the pain came back. Oh boy. It was not my imagination!
