Merry Christmas to you. And yeah, I knew it was the birthday of Mithras. It used to be the Celebration of the Sun (the birth of the Sun from darkness) and the early Christian church changed it to the Celebration of the Son. Anyway, enough history. Enjoy the gifts! ;)
Here we call it Jul which comes from Yule, the pagan holiday for the sun. My brother and I have been remarking on how much of the holiday celebrating has more to do wtih nature then Jesus. Like the tree. Nowadays we put colorful balls, to replace the apples we used to put up. (Of course many still put up plastic apples, in remembrance of the real ones.) When the tradition first started, it was a whole bunch of goodies in the tree, so it became symbolic for the harvest. (This is just an educated guess though.)
