There's this Y!Music ad where they introduce a stodgy looking old lady called Nancy. Because Nancy is such a conservative, twee old name, right?

Like, there was never a trashy punk-rock girlfriend called Nancy. Or half a dozen awesome characters in literature and movies that have that name and aren't conservative in the slightest.

God damn it, Nancy Reagan. You've ruined this perfectly wonderful name for *everyone*!!

That's odd. I never think of Nancy as a stodgy name. I think of it as a young peppy girl, like Nancy Drew or a Nancy boy.

I think of the hero chick from the Nightmare on Elm Street (she was the one that survived no 1 and came back a few times etc). Not fun to dream of Freddy - but it is certainly not stodgy.
