Yes, I'm going to the dentist today. No chocolates, no flowers - just a drill in the teeth. YAY!
I'll share a little factoid with you all, it's a funny little one that I don't know whether to be proud of or not.
In all my twenty-seven going on twenty-eight years of life, I have never had a boyfriend on Valentine's day. So I've never had someone to say 'Happy Valentine's Day' to, or anything like that. So Valentine's Day has always been this really weird day for me where I'm reminded of something I've never really had. I used to get really bitter about it but these days I just get a little sad. A tiny bit. Not much. :)
This year I'm doing something different. While reading up on Gnosticism I read that 'St Valentine' had his day removed from the Catholic holiday calendar because they were removing saints they viewed as 'legendary', as in, they didn't really know if they existed or not. I find that amusing for some reason (see: bitter single hag syndrome) but I also thought, "Hey, why waste a day on an imaginary figure?"
There was a real Valentinus and I really do like him. I don't agree with everything he said, but he says a lot about love that I enjoy. And no, not romantic love, but spiritual love, and the metaphor of the union of two people to describe spiritual fulfilment.
... Well. It's something to distract me from my singledom, anyway (not that I really don't enjoy it, I just hope that I do eventually find someone - time is wearing on!).
But, as bad as I feel, I can rest assured in this simple fact. Elle MacPherson, The Body, has not had sex in two years cause she can't get a decent boyfriend. Rock on, sistah.

As a monk said to me last night ".... dont forget about the massacres too."

Date: 2007-02-15 07:25 am (UTC)YAY Lupercalia - MUCH better celebration.
Ever since I could read Ive been sad over the fact we dont feast and celebrate such things - we just dont have much in the way of tradition do we?? I mean xmas - wtf??? Give me a equinox celebration over that anyday!!!
...amongst all the great things we SHOULD adore and celebrate.... we (well some people) choose to buy gifts and flowers and fancy dinners to show our lovd ones we love them because its the day chosen for society to do so.
ohh and Im not being a party pooper, I just feel alot more special and loved when my loved ones do this for me on any old day of the year.
keke my boss asked if we did anything special last night....
my friend said "yep it cost 6 of us $200 for dinner at blah blah and he gave me this and this and ....."
My silly brain is ticking going "shit $200 could have fed how many homeless people last night????"
and she asked me and I said "nah we dont go for celebrating that kind of stuff, instead we like to spurise each other when the other least expects it" *insert blank stares at me*
I think I really confused them when I said I spent the evening down at the foreshore at a mini party with a bunch of people fire twirling kekeke
I love to keep ppl guessing :)
