Okay - now what the fuck do we do?

One of the traps went off on a baby mouse. On its MUZZLE only! Now we have a squeaky-breathing broken-muzzled little mouse in a box.

Do I give it to Lenny? He'd finish it off fairly quick. Or do I keep it in the box and wait for it to die?

WHAT THE FUCK DO I DO?!

I feel responsible for this cause I'm one of the stupid bloody humans putting these traps out. I should at least make sure that none of the little beggars don't go through pain.

Any advice, please. *sigh*

ETA: The mouse is now an ex-mouse. Cat finished him up in a gobble or two. Thank Christ!! *sighs* Soooo much bad karma being racked up for me!

ETA2: We've been keeping a tally. Each trap is christened. Scotty's is Vic Morrow, mine is Jayne Mansfield. So far, Vic has caught three, Jayne has caught two. I know, awful things to call traps but we've got the gallows humour cause in reality, we hate the fucking things and it's the only way we can cope.

My dad used to break their necks by holding their bodies in one fist and the base of the skull in the other and pulling with a fast jerking motion to sever the spinal cord at the base of the skull. I always hated it, but I understood why that was the right thing to do when the mouse in the trap didn't die.

Oh god, I could't do that. It's small. *whimpers*

Give it to the kitty. ...This is easy for me to say because I'm not there and in that situation, but if it's suffering and in pain and the kitty would end it pretty fast, it may actually be the nicer thing to do.

Our cat would eventually kill it, but she'd play with it for a couple of hours first. :~(
I tend to flush them down the toilet. I think drowning would be a less traumatic way to go than via our cat. Our cat always leaves half of any mice she kills for us as well. She loves us I guess. ;~P

Same here. Phantom once got a mouse and I let her play with it for a few hours. Eventually the mouse was gone, I don't know if it was eaten or if it escaped.

Nah, Lenny gobbled it down pretty quick. He doesn't really play with them unless they're already dead.

Yes, your cat does love you!

If it happens again, send it to the cat. You don't want to prolong suffering. Around here if anyone hits a deer with a car, we're told to break it's neck if it's still alive. I wouldn't be able to do that though! But if it's going to die anyway, faster is better.

::hugs::

Giving it to Lenny was the right thing to do. It was in pain. Better that the end be quick than slow.

Yep. A nice, quick death. And Lenny thoroughly enjoyed it. *shudders*

HAhaha. Sorry, I think it's cute that you ask me, like I'm the expert on all Aussieism. I just adore you to bits.

Uhm - yes, sorry, darl. But I gotta say, with all the dangerous animals he's been fuckin' with over the years, it's not a *huge* surprise. It is terribly sad, though!

...Teehee. Well, yes, you -are- sort of, aren't you? First person who came to my mind, so reliable!

...And SOB! That is very, very sad. A bit random too, and that's horrible that not even Terri knows yet! This is gonna haunt me, I feel like I grew up with this guy.

*Huggles* Thaaank you for telling me, doll. And thanks for putting up with my twittering American-girl questions, you're so sweet to me. *Loves*

I guess so!

It is very sad. Poor Terri, and the poor kids! You'd think he'd tone it down once kids arrived on the scene. I guess he never thought this sort of thing would happen.

*hugs* Any time, bebe.

*Headshake* That's why it feels so raaandom. He survives God knows how many crocodiles, Kimono dragons, poisons spiders, mountain lions, sharks, and once his guard's a bit down when he's doing something that, while still risky, is arguably much less dangerous then all the other stuff he's done in his life, and -that's- what kills him? How horrible.

I feel so bad for the family. I dunno if what I would do if I were Terri and found out after the rest of the world. It's so surreal.

*Luv*
