logansrogue: (Carrie and the Magnetism)

I've been working on my comics for ten years now.

What I don't usually share (except with a few people that I gauge will be open to the idea) is that I want to turn one of my comics into a musical. Carrie and the Magnetism.

It won't be a wanky Rent-esque modern musical thing. I can't stand those things. The music tends to sound like inspirational Christian Rock. I like the old school ones. JC Superstar, Godspell, Hair. Rock extravaganzas with a little something extra. Elements of art thrown in. I've had experience in both performance and in conceptual art - both would hugely come into play with the musical. I'd want it to have the energy, cheekiness and sexual flare of a Kander and Ebb production, with the spunk of the Tank Girl movie (as much as people hate that thing, there were comic shots and animations that really reflect the kind of feel I'm going for). Retro, funky, curvy, contrasted with gauche, sharp, 80s fashion. (The play is visually split like this, the good guys being all funky and soft and the bad guys being pointy and mean. In the end the two resolve in a way I'm not going to say!)

It would be an all-moving, all-dancing and singing comic, basically. There would be artwork projected onto screens behind them, giving the feel of moving panels. Not only would it be conceptually interesting, but it would help with costs for sets and so forth. They wouldn't replace sets, but they'd certainly help them along. The moving and good acting would help transport the audience. Hence why the focus would be on good performers, good music and good plot.

Perhaps I'm optimistic or just plain inexperienced. I don't know shit about the theatre world. All I know is that I have my idea and I'm making it. I'm going to finish writing it and then I'm going to talk to people I know and see if it's possible. I'll probably have to work on the comic, make it a bit known in comic circles first. I wouldn't be surprised if my idea didn't come to fruition till I was in my late thirties. I certainly couldn't star in it, except as maybe a cameo. I'm not beautiful enough to be Andrea, blonde enough to be Carrie or pointy enough to be Ci-Ki. Maybe I could be Stacey or Tracy. I'd be a good Stacey, I think. :D She's like an evil Edina, but without the playfulness or silliness. She's a shark.

I've written about ten to fifteen songs so far. All are heavily funk. There are some Kate Bush-esque ballads. The really good one is when they're waking in the hospital. It's a three part harmony piece - very painful and emotionally raw. If I had three good singers - it'd floor people. (There I go, sounding full of myself again!)

I might record some of the pieces in demos and get them online, for the helluvit.

Anywho. I like talking about myself. Thought I'd do a good job of it! :D
