I just got a call from my doctor this morning.  Remember how I've beencomplaining about terrible fatigue?  Well, it seems that I've got lowiron levels.  That's what the doctor said, though I have to wonder ifit's anaemia, since I've had that before, when I was a teenager.

I also wonder if it has anything to do with the fact that I am just finishing my periods.  :T

Have any of you had this problem before, and has solving it helped?  Cause I'd like to get some of my old energy back.

I've had trouble with my iron levels being low, and I found that iron supplements helped give me back some energy. Then again, I also started sleeping better, so it could have just been that rather than the iron, but it certainly didn't seem to hurt.

1) Birth control pills.
2) Multivitamins.

*hugs* It's the first day of my time of the month too and I'm just ick. Was supposed to go to a party, but just didn't feel up to it... anyway, talk to you soon, I hope!

Apparently you lose a bit of iron with your period. I've just found out I have low iron also, lovely side effect from coeliac. The lowest rating in the "normal" range, ie before anemia, is 110. And mine is 111.

I'm taking iron supplements but apparently it's going to take ages to build up my stores.

It'll improve your energy levels, but the supplements can make you a bit constipated and turns your poo black (lovely info from my GP).

They'll help, get Ferro-grad C because the vitamin C in them helps you absorb more.

I had low iron for a while, I took some high-dose iron pills for a couple of months. My iron levels went up and I did feel better.

I take iron tablets (ferroGrad-C) and notice the difference if I don't take them for a few days. But I can honestly say I haven't felt 'my old energy' since my first pregnancy 17yrs ago. Kids suck it out of you, literally. ;~P

Where do you live? In Canada they refuse to do the injections anymore, it seems. I could sure use them though.

Okay, I'll be the odd one out... I've been chronically tired since I had mono in grade five, and I have also been very low on iron the past few years... but I eat red meat daily and take lots of iron supplements, and I'm still tired. I am more tired without the iron though! It could be your problem, but considering your other health probs, your body might just be worn out!

iron deficiency anemia is the most common type of anemia and the most common cause in women is menstrual blood loss. There are iron formulations that your doctor can prescribe to bring your level up.

He just told me to eat red meat. He's a bit of a dork sometimes, is my doctor. But he's the one that figured out I probably had endo, so I don't hate on him too much.

also, don't forget the whole vitamin C thing. You can lick iron posts for all the good eating iron-rich foods (which includes green leafy's like spinach and bok choy as well as the usual steaks!) will do you unless you have enough vitamin C in your system to convert it to usuable form.

I usually try to get three serves of leafies a week, MINIMUM, each washed down with a glass of juice. That seems to keep my iron levels up where they should be.

*hugs*

Guinness. Drink Guinness. Tons of iron and other goodness. The old 'Guinness is good for you' ads weren't actually lying- without the alcohol you could probably live on the stuff. Not to excess, but it helps if you don't eat much in the way of red meat and stuff like me.

That'd be good, but I don't like Guinness! And alcohol deadens the painkillers. But it's a good thought, though! :D
