I had the appointment with my new doctor today. It was amazing. The receptionist was *such* a sweetheart, so much nicer than some of the frosty rich ladies at my other clinic. Then I saw the actual doctor - wow!

What a new experience that was. He actually listened to me! Maybe it's because I'm new or something, I dunno. All I know was that I rattled off the list of symptoms, told him everything that had happened in the last six months, brought him my ultrasounds to show him. He nodded and said:

"Well, the only thing that'll really help you if it is endometriosis - and it most certainly sounds like it is - is to have the laprascopy. It's the only way we'll know for sure."

I was stunned. All the other doctors pussy-footed and hummed and hawwed, even when I'd been ill for four or five months. He seemed surprised that I hadn't had a lap yet. He said that it was good that I was referred to King Edward, that it was the best place for me (as opposed to "Huh? Do you really think that's necessary?") and that I should keep doing what I'm doing - taking the naprosyn, using the heat pack, etc.

So it looks like I'm a step closer to the surgery. I'll admit - I'm scared out of my mind about it, but I can't keep going like this without looking inside and seeing if they can remove some of it.

Yay!!! A competent doctor! About friggin' time. I know it's surgery, which *is* scary, but sometimes that really is all you can do.

Thank God you've managed to find a doctor that's not only competent but willing to listen to you! You've really been dealing with a ton of shit, and it's about time that somebody's willing to take you seriously.

Good luck! Doctors can be so dumb sometimes. Matt had his symptoms for years and every doctor totally dismissed Crohn's because he was "way too young". Eventually a doctor in Port Augusta of all places immediately diagnosed him correctly and the ball was rolling to fix things up.

There's no such thing as too young for Crohn's! That's so wierd. There's maybe too old, but too young?

Well at the time he was the youngest diagnosed.

But due to that discovery they soon after diagnosed a 2 year old and now diagnose at birth.

About damn time, love. About damn time.

It's scary to have surgery, even a minor day operation such as a lap, but this is for the best. As I've said for months now, the only way to truly diagnose endo is through the lap.

I'll start digging for my lap prep sheet.

At least you won't have to stay over night in the hospital and won't need a cathetar... Really the worst part of it will be the bowel prep the night before.

*loves on you*

As always, if you have questions, ask here or email me.

I know it's scary... but try not to be too scared. I've had a laproscopy and over here in England it's done as day surgery... only in my case I stayed in overnight because I'm such a lightweight that it was very painful for me and they had to give me morphine. On the other hand they did diathermy at the same time as my lap to cauterise the cysts on my ovaries, so... maybe that's why it was so painful.

They did my lap keyhole - I assume it'll be the same for you. Making two little incisions right in the pubic hairline (I had to shave). and another in my belly button. They pump carbon dioxide inside to blow your tummy up to give them room to see and move about with the instruments and stuff... so you might suffer from gas for a while afterwards - I did. *blush* And it being keyhole you don't end up with any unsightly scars or anything. Don't know what else I can tell you.

hugs you...
Keep me posted.

the co2 can make your back and shoulders hurt too - happened to me. and you look mega bloated for a while, but that goes down.

when I got mine done I "didn't have any flab" (Drs words) on my tummy for him to pull up so he left a huge bruise where he had to pull the muscle :P it didn't hurt, was just purple for a week. highly amusing I thought as I most definately DID have flab!

Thanks, Eiri. *hugs* I didn't know you had endo too. Did you get in a lot of pain too before the lap?

When will you be on next? I need to air some ideas for my fic, thought maybe you could give me some feedback. Only if you've got the time or whatever - I don't want to inconvenience you!

Hugs
Nancy.

Well... my online time is not as regular as usual due to the fact that I'm in the USA with my girlfriend until the beginning of Jan. But if you want to email me whatever you're bouncing around, I usually check my email every morning some time between 7.30 and 10.30 Eastern time. What I'll do from now on is start Yahoo when I get online to do that, so that if you're around you can pounce.

hugs

Oh, I'm so glad you finally found a doctor who takes you serious. I think that's something what must be a great relief, at least for me it would be one. Considered the feeling someone might help you finally and maybe things will be better is certainly there, I hope at least.

So it looks like I'm a step closer to the surgery. I'll admit - I'm scared out of my mind about it, but I can't keep going like this without looking inside and seeing if they can remove some of it.

Understandable.

they really arent that scary *hugs*

the worst parts are waiting for 5hours or something on an empty stomach, not being able to form cohesive sentences let alone words and lack of hand eye coordination immediately after waking up, and trying to remember how to pee again.

oh - and wax your tummy before hand, those bandages KILL on the removal (too much belly hair for me :\ )

Good luck, Nancy! I'm glad that they're finally doing something for you.
And if it makes you feel any better, I have to have a colonoscopy - or an anal probe as I call it - Jan 10. Apparently the NP at my endo doc would like to rule out colon cancer, which never crossed my mind.

And the only "solid" food I can have the day before is Jello - and not even red Jello!

*hugs* we'll both get through it!

Nancy, I am so pleased to hear you're finally seeing a doctor that'll tell it to you straight. The surgery is really the only surefire way to diagnose and treat the endo. I had it done last month and I am so glad I did, for the peace of mind it's given me. And I feel normal now when my monthly friend comes to visit and I haven't the major worry of it going on to cause infertility and all that jazz.

In my experience a lot of GPs wont diagnose it and wont suggest surgery because they don't seem to specialise enough to know enough about it. I was scared out of my mind beforehand too, they actually had to sedate me before I went in but whatever they gave me made me feel BRILLIANT and anyway it's all good now.

Really, best of luck bebe, though you wont need it. And yeah, just glad to hear something's being done! Ace!

Thanks! It's really good to hear from people that have had this done before and have had positive results. I can only pray that it's in lots of little dots like the doctor said, and easily removed. *prays*
