The visit to the new doctor...
Dec. 14th, 2005 07:35 pmI had the appointment with my new doctor today. It was amazing. The receptionist was *such* a sweetheart, so much nicer than some of the frosty rich ladies at my other clinic. Then I saw the actual doctor - wow!
What a new experience that was. He actually listened to me! Maybe it's because I'm new or something, I dunno. All I know was that I rattled off the list of symptoms, told him everything that had happened in the last six months, brought him my ultrasounds to show him. He nodded and said:
"Well, the only thing that'll really help you if it is endometriosis - and it most certainly sounds like it is - is to have the laprascopy. It's the only way we'll know for sure."
I was stunned. All the other doctors pussy-footed and hummed and hawwed, even when I'd been ill for four or five months. He seemed surprised that I hadn't had a lap yet. He said that it was good that I was referred to King Edward, that it was the best place for me (as opposed to "Huh? Do you really think that's necessary?") and that I should keep doing what I'm doing - taking the naprosyn, using the heat pack, etc.
So it looks like I'm a step closer to the surgery. I'll admit - I'm scared out of my mind about it, but I can't keep going like this without looking inside and seeing if they can remove some of it.

Date: 2005-12-14 03:52 pm (UTC)It's scary to have surgery, even a minor day operation such as a lap, but this is for the best. As I've said for months now, the only way to truly diagnose endo is through the lap.
I'll start digging for my lap prep sheet.
At least you won't have to stay over night in the hospital and won't need a cathetar... Really the worst part of it will be the bowel prep the night before.
*loves on you*
As always, if you have questions, ask here or email me.

Date: 2005-12-14 04:11 pm (UTC)They did my lap keyhole - I assume it'll be the same for you. Making two little incisions right in the pubic hairline (I had to shave). and another in my belly button. They pump carbon dioxide inside to blow your tummy up to give them room to see and move about with the instruments and stuff... so you might suffer from gas for a while afterwards - I did. *blush* And it being keyhole you don't end up with any unsightly scars or anything. Don't know what else I can tell you.
hugs you...
Keep me posted.

Date: 2005-12-15 02:53 am (UTC)when I got mine done I "didn't have any flab" (Drs words) on my tummy for him to pull up so he left a huge bruise where he had to pull the muscle :P it didn't hurt, was just purple for a week. highly amusing I thought as I most definately DID have flab!

Hopefully, now, you'll get the treatment you need and will be well on the way to feeling better.
Icon is representative of my feelings for the quacks you've been forced to see until now. Ginny's thought, too, I'm sure. Also, you know, spamming you kitty pic... ;)

Date: 2005-12-15 02:42 am (UTC)the worst parts are waiting for 5hours or something on an empty stomach, not being able to form cohesive sentences let alone words and lack of hand eye coordination immediately after waking up, and trying to remember how to pee again.
oh - and wax your tummy before hand, those bandages KILL on the removal (too much belly hair for me :\ )

Date: 2005-12-15 03:23 am (UTC)And if it makes you feel any better, I have to have a colonoscopy - or an anal probe as I call it - Jan 10. Apparently the NP at my endo doc would like to rule out colon cancer, which never crossed my mind.
And the only "solid" food I can have the day before is Jello - and not even red Jello!
*hugs* we'll both get through it!

Date: 2005-12-15 07:14 am (UTC)In my experience a lot of GPs wont diagnose it and wont suggest surgery because they don't seem to specialise enough to know enough about it. I was scared out of my mind beforehand too, they actually had to sedate me before I went in but whatever they gave me made me feel BRILLIANT and anyway it's all good now.
Really, best of luck bebe, though you wont need it. And yeah, just glad to hear something's being done! Ace!
