This song is still relevant...
Jan. 28th, 2011 07:03 amYeah, Kate Bush is over the top and ridiculous, but these lyrics keep haunting me as I see shit happen in Egypt and nobody is doing anything:
Follow the Nile, Deep to much deeper,
The Pyramids sound lonely tonight.
The sands run red, in Lands of the Pharoahs,
Their symmetry gets right inside me.
I cannot stop to comfort them,
I'm busy chasing up my demon,
Oh, I'm in love with Egypt.
To most people, Egypt is tombs and animal-headed Gods and an exotic, far-away world of wonder and mysticism. To me, it's an old place in the cradle of civilisation, struggling for freedom. I'm guilty of the white-girl pastime of collecting tourist-trap crap and obsessing over Egypt as it was, thousands of years ago. But I can't love a place so much and not care about how its people are today. I just can't. Every day I read the news, and I hope that there's a good outcome, that the people prevail. I don't know what I can do in Australia, especially since I'm broke and can't donate any money for anything. Suggestions more than welcome.
ETA: Alya, I don't know if you can get internet, but please, stay safe! My heart is with you and all your friends, family and country-people.
