Yes, I'm going to the dentist today. No chocolates, no flowers - just a drill in the teeth. YAY!
I'll share a little factoid with you all, it's a funny little one that I don't know whether to be proud of or not.
In all my twenty-seven going on twenty-eight years of life, I have never had a boyfriend on Valentine's day. So I've never had someone to say 'Happy Valentine's Day' to, or anything like that. So Valentine's Day has always been this really weird day for me where I'm reminded of something I've never really had. I used to get really bitter about it but these days I just get a little sad. A tiny bit. Not much. :)
This year I'm doing something different. While reading up on Gnosticism I read that 'St Valentine' had his day removed from the Catholic holiday calendar because they were removing saints they viewed as 'legendary', as in, they didn't really know if they existed or not. I find that amusing for some reason (see: bitter single hag syndrome) but I also thought, "Hey, why waste a day on an imaginary figure?"
There was a real Valentinus and I really do like him. I don't agree with everything he said, but he says a lot about love that I enjoy. And no, not romantic love, but spiritual love, and the metaphor of the union of two people to describe spiritual fulfilment.
... Well. It's something to distract me from my singledom, anyway (not that I really don't enjoy it, I just hope that I do eventually find someone - time is wearing on!).
But, as bad as I feel, I can rest assured in this simple fact. Elle MacPherson, The Body, has not had sex in two years cause she can't get a decent boyfriend. Rock on, sistah.

Valentine's Special: Top Ten Love Songs.
Feb. 14th, 2007 11:32 pmI'm not talking those cheesy saccharine horrors you get on cheap song compilation CDs. There are rare songs that seem to capture something of what it is to be in love, some of them are ridiculously popular, some of them strangely obscure. All of them range the different states love brings about - happiness, despair, confusion, heartbreak. So I thought I'd share them with you all, whether you are waiting for the right one or have the right one next to you.
So, in no particular order, ten love songs that I recommend and adore.
( Top Ten Love Songs )
Have a good one, all.
