Learning German.
May. 3rd, 2004 02:39 amHi y'all.
Well, I am trying to learn German. Dad's taken to pointing to objects and giving me the German name for them. I know, it's utterly attrocious that a girl as so thoroughly and proudly half-German as I am can't speak the language, but I do know a few words and it seems, as I look through German books (buch.. buchen? what's the plural?) and stuff, that I actually know some of the grammar instinctively. Like, I took this easy German test, and even though I got most of the questions wrong, I actually did a lot of second guessing and my instincts with German are correct (like grammar structure and so forth). So I'm comforted on that count, and I'm thinking maybe it won't be so hard to learn.
I just wish I had some of those really easy kids books, like I had in school when I was learning to read. You know, like the really shit easy books like, "See Dick run. Run Dick, run!" All the way up to, "Sally went to the park and played with the ball." All that shit. Cause then I can learn the way I learnt english, and it'll be easier on me that way. God, I wish I could remember where that old German kids book my Oma and Opa sent me was. :T Stupid me for losing it!! I might pull out an old German fairy story book - I aim to be able to read that fucking thing. I never could as a kid and I want to.
So anyway, wish me luck!! And if any of my German friends want to send me emails in German, you're welcome to. Just know that I know fuck all at the moment, so you have to aim your German levels to someone with the IQ of a potato. (Kartoffel).
