Apparently, they want to cast Angelina Jolie as Cleopatra in an upcoming movie.

Now, Cleopatra's race is a complicated issue. She was Greek, Macedonian specifically, and horribly inbred. Apparently, she wasn't that much of a looker, either. Not by modern standards at least (I think she was still lovely).

So why pick Jolie? Sure, Jolie might have the right amount of quiet psychosis required to pull off Cleopatra, but she's far too pretty and overexposed to be believed as the most famous Egyptian Queen ever to have ruled Egypt.

I mean, they wouldn't *gasp* get an actual mixed-race woman, of mainly Macedonian heritage to play her, would they? That would be unheard of. *grumps*

Not to mention, as the OP stated, she was inbred. So...it's safe to say she was probably pretty wonky looking anyways. xD! Seriously, even if they don't have birth defects, inbred people tend to have weird features. I don't know how to explain it. Like their noses are SUPER huge, or they have EXTREME unibrows, or their eyes are too close together or SOMETHING.

Well one of my points about Jolie is she's considered weirdly out of proportion by today's standards for a lot of people. I'm not in that camp, but she's not exactly a traditional beauty.

I am familiar with inbred features and the stereotypes. I'm also unconvinced you're being particularly educated or polite about the issues associated with being inbred.

I'm basing that on my experience with families who marry cousins generation after generation, including my ex-husband's (his family on his particular side only did it one generation, however he had other family members that had done it a LOT). I didn't claim to have done a scholarly study on it. People who inbreed for one, or even two generations don't tend to have recessive traits that get out of hand. People who inbreed generation after generation, do. (And yes, I did study that in college.)

At any rate, I don't want to get into a big debate about it. It's just not that important to me.

She probably looked something like this:

How did they figure that out? Did they do the digital restoration? (I can't remember what it's called!)

I know that King Tut's relatives had some serious problems from inbreeding. Supposedly all of those pictures of him and his relatives with elongated skulls wasn't artistic license.

And I chose that particular article because of the subject matter. :P

I know Cleopatra and Tut weren't related, just thought I'd throw it out there.

This isn't really keeping in line with your desire for diversity, but - is it wrong that I sort of think "Anne Hathaway" when I look at that?
