Just watched AstroBoy
May. 26th, 2010 06:09 amWhat fool decided that NICHOLAS CAGE would be a good voice actor? He varies his volume - THAT IS IT. What, they couldn't pull Mark fucking Hamill in to do some dynamic God-damned voice work? Freddie was ADORBS, but too low-voiced for Astro. I feel they didn't get the best out of Bill Nighy, but he was the only other voice that stopped it from being a dull aural experience. Kristen Bell had none of her adorable pep vocally either.
NICHOLAS CAGE RUINS EVERYTHING.
Don't get me started on the shitty script and the predictable plot. God damn it!
/angry Astro-Boy fan.

Date: 2010-05-25 11:58 pm (UTC)That said, I don't think any actor could have saved that movie. It took something so iconic and wonderful and messed with it to make it American-friendly and "safe". The edge was gone. The humanity had left the building.

Date: 2010-05-26 08:27 am (UTC)You know what I missed? Nothing felt Japanese. Astro Boy is set in Japan of the future. You can tell in Astro's mannerisms and behaviour. It just didn't feel like Astro when it was all Americanised. :(
I don't really like Nicholas Cage as an actor much. I've enjoyed movies with him in it, but I've never really watched one where I loved his work. HE CAN'T DO VOICE WORK, though. This was terrible. Maybe with a better coach, as the voice-work in this movie was abysmal all round.
