I just saw a bit of that fucking anatomy show where the creepy German guy cuts up people. You know, I am so sure this has a huge, amazing use as education, and I'm sure some people find it really fascinating.

I just saw through a woman's mouth from the BACK OF HER HEAD. Cause it was cut open, the neck was gone.

I AM NOT ONE OF THESE PEOPLE THAT CAN WATCH THIS SHOW. I AM HAVING TROUBLE KEEPING MY DINNER DOWN. I MAY JUST BECOME A VEGETARIAN CAUSE ALL I SAW WAS MEAT AND TEETH.

*voms for a while*

You know, my seven year old niece watches that fucking show. She has giant freakin' gonads.

I get where you niece is coming from - when I was that age I participated in the autopsy of a cow.

You would not like our anatomy lab at all.

No. I love anatomy, but I like to know it abstractly so I can draw things better. I DO NOT LIKE SEEING THE REAL FRIGGIN' THING ON A VIDEO. Unless it's an animal, I can deal with an animal. Just not people. :(

I am no Leonardo Da Vinci.

Personally, I find that when the body has been prepared correctly (i.e. washed, treated with chemicals, had the external coverings removed etc.), I can look at it just fine - but whenever we get an arm specimen where they haven't removed the skin and fat from the fingertips, or (and this one will probably haunt my nightmares forever) a specimen that still has hair on the areas of skin, like we got with that reproductive anatomy tute in my first year, that freaks me out. But otherwise, I mean, I see way worse things in regular practice than a dead guy's muscles and organs. After you've seen people bleeding from every orifice, exuding all sorts of icky fluid from wounds and vomiting up everything in their stomachs, a dead body doesn't seem all that icky.

Muscles and organs I can deal with, I've seen lots of surgeries on TV. It's when there's hair on the dead woman's head that it freaks me the fuck out. The teeth, the context freaked me out. It was just too human and it was upsetting, deeply upsetting for me. I am not cut out for medicine. Which is just as well, really.

Like I said, the hair thing freaks me out as well. Most of our bodies are partial sections, and we don't have all that many faces. When I had to teach head and neck last year, I stayed over with the skulls and let the other tutors handle the bodies, because the dead faces just creeped me out too much. So, you know, even those of us who are supposedly "cut out for medicine" have our squicks.

The creepy thing was the woman had gone green, she was dried out, but her hair was brown (like mine) and her front tooth was worn in a similar way to mine, so it just scared the crap out of me. It was seriously creepy.

I don't like meat having faces. *shudders with creeped-out-ness*

Wow, that would have creeped me out quite a bit too. Our bodies are usually brown from the chemicals with which they're treated; a green body would hit all sorts of squick buttons for me.

The German dude had dried her out or something. Being green is one thing, but having the hair and then cutting her open? Yeah, I was traumatised. :T

It's okay. I have committed myself to a life of art and music. Dead bodies are not generally a feature of that career path (unless you end up really famous and hooked on something nasty, but I don't have the constitution for that so we're good).
