Labor has to start now. NOW. They need to get their butts in gear. Apparently Liberals are ahead in the opinion polls here in WA.

DO YOU KNOW HOW MUCH THAT SCARES ME!?

The thought of Tony Abbott as PM isn't just distasteful to me. It isn't just a drag or a pain or a bummer. It TERRIFIES me. This is a man that wants to take my disability benefits away. He wants to control what I can do with my reproductive system. Legislate on MY body, MY choices, MY life. This is the man that calls the regular showing of respect to our First Australians "Tokenism".

The media seems to love Abbott right now, and I'm terrified of that too. It doesn't matter how friendly he looks. It doesn't matter if he goes quad-biking or whatever the fuck, just like any other bloke.

What matters is - does he really care about this country? Considering how little he cares about Climate Change, I'd say not.

He's a cynical, rat-faced little bastard. Rudd should have called the election months ago.

Oh GOD, RUDD. OH GOD.

The Liberals are always ahead in WA, and the media loved Mark Latham, too :)

A long, drawn-out election campaign is what's needed to properly kill him. Give him plenty of time to annoy every conceivable segment of the voting population, along with half his own party.

Oh, I hope you're right. Kill his political career. If the man were in front of me I'd give him a really horrible look. I have too good manners to spit at him.

I have faith in your ability to hurt him very badly with that look ;)

From my brain to your hands; argh argh ARGH. I switched on the TV in prep for watching a different show tonight, and inadvertently caught footage of Abbott on TV. I recoiled and shouted "GAH", and partner and I agreed that all footage should come with a "viewer discretion is advised" warning.

Visceral horror.

Jesus. The dude sounds like a total asshat... It's scary just how much men are willing to legislate what a woman does to her body (THE GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF UTAH, I'M LOOKING AT YOU!).

I know. There's this Women's Lib backlash going on that makes me mighty uncomfortable. But in the words of Helen Reddy: I am woman, hear me roar
In numbers too big to ignore
And I know too much to go back an' pretend
'cause I've heard it all before
And I've been down there on the floor
No one's ever gonna keep me down again

My mom has her record around the house somewhere (yes, vinyl). Damned good stuff!

I've also noticed with increasing discomfort the anti-Woman's Lib Backlash. I think that's why I've been following the anti-religious Christian/Quiverfull fundie blogs so much. So much of that is being taught to the girls in these homes that it's frightening. "Barefoot and pregnant" is taught as a mantra to these girls :-(

Yeah, it's really horrible. And a lot of it untrue. People don't seem to understand that feminism is about choice, not restricting a woman's life to a job and no kids.

All one can do is educate and keep talking about things, I suppose.

It is extremely rare for a government to lose office after a single term. I think it's happened, from memory, maybe twice since Federation, and not since the 1930s.

Also remember that the ALP hasn't really started campaigning yet.

And yeah, as noted above, the Liberal party always polls well in WA, particularly suburbs like... well basically your house sits on a Buffy-style Hellmouth, is what I'm sayin'.

Oh I know, I am faced with it every time I go to vote. The rich, the vapid, the clueless. Oh, and my Dad.

If it's any consolation, Costello has just popped out of the woodwork to describe Abbott's 26-week maternity leave policy as insane, noting "it should have set off alarm bells all over the place".

So basically the Federal Liberal Party has started eating its own young.

Yeah I noticed the news on the radio was mentioning Costello again, but I was setting up my painting so I couldn't concentrate on what it was saying.

Good to know, good to know.

On the plus side, if he keeps going quad-biking, he might not survive until the election.

...OK, that's a little bit mean.
