So there was this douchebaggy ad during the Superbowl. Notice that the things women are asking of him (cleaning up after himself, not leaving the toilet seat down so that women and children don't potentially hurt themselves falling into the bowl, not being a douche, accepting the fact that some of his friends might be douches) aren't really that demanding. It's basic grown-up behaviour.

Now watch the ad some brilliant ladies made on Youtube:

Hah, yeah. Game, set and match, buttwipes.

I'm glad you saw the comeback!! One of my friends posted it a week ago and I was just so THRILLED with it, because seriously? The "issues" the guys were complaining about in that ridiculous ad? *shakes head*

I saw the Dodge ad and all I heard was "Wah wah waaaah!"

This is great and all, except for the "I'll put my career on hold to have your children" - that's a two way street, ladies! I'm choosing photography/career over babbies and am pleased about that. No one is forcing ladies to have kids; most consciously decide to put their own careers on hold.

/child-free rant :)

The pressure and expectation of society would beg to differ.

*Also child-free*

I found a lot of the ads during the Superbowl to be sexist. I wasn't sure if I was being a cranky feminist or if advertisers were going overboard with stereotypes.

Yeah but a lot of women *want* to have children, which will create a stall in their career whether they want to or not. Cause employment is skewed against women that reproduce. I think that's the point there.

I think the latter. Though there is certainly nothing wrong with being the former. LOL!

Most of the pressure is from women though!

My former boss had horrified women ask her why she didn't sell her business after having a baby...

I've also noticed a lot of guys would be cool with being a stay at home dad and women seem to have the biggest knee jerk reaction to it. At some guys do it despite those stereotypes!

The women, I would say, are pressured to think this way from the day they're born, otherwise they're "bad mothers" and bad people. They get brought up like that, they push what they were pushed to believe on other people. Patriarchy is a vicious circle of shit that hurts *everybody* in the end.

Are lauded as SUPERMEN. WOW. WHAT AMAZING GUYS!

And it's incredibly hard to convince men to give up their careers to look after kids. Most of the time I would say women would be shit out of luck.

Besides, I think women should be able to both work AND spend a reasonable amount of time with their children.

Wow, total opposite in Canada / North America.

I've talked to a lot of guys who would love to do it, but there is SO MUCH TEASING they get for it. (Too lazy to work, he's a sissy, etc.) It's pretty sad. I think the US is even worse because they are so much more opposed to reversing gender roles there.

Heh, I'll send all the guys who want to be stay at home dads to Australia if they really get applauded for it there :D

Please do. So many Australian guys are not the sort I'm really interested in. Though, there are a few gems. ;)

It's interesting to see the differences in cultures in regards to certain things.

Well yes, the patriarchy wouldn't work if women didn't internalize it.

Women also get made to feel like kids/career must be an either/or choice and there's something wrong with them if they want to go back to work after having kids (leaving them in childcare or with their dad). When we do it it's trying to have our cake and eat it too whereas when a man does that it's just 'normal'. Rassum frassum.

As for myself I wanted kids and had no career to speak of anyway, but it's the principle of the thing!

Ah, then the rumors are true! I've heard the men there are all jerks, and when a Canadian guy moves there all the women swoon because he is so nice and they aren't used to it :P
