Trigger Warning: Rape survey done in London is a very depressing survey.

Next in No-Shit studies, people discover that women can be misogynists too.

Nothing makes me rage more. Oh, wearing a short skirt makes it okay for people to rape me? That's funny, the last I checked the law said NO RAPING, not NO SHORT SKIRTS.

Fucking idiots. I could rant about this for hours, I'm not kidding.

Wait wait wait. The mods at JEZEBEL thought that there were rape victims who "deserved it"???

Love, this was the second thing I heard this morning when I turned on the tv. I don't know why I bother.

However, I do wonder how the questions in the survey were phrased - I'm no expert but it's not hard to lead a survey to go the way you want.

What's really sad is that I know if I reposted this at my Facebook, at least 2 or 3 of my in laws would comment saying "but it's true!". Some people aren't very bright. -_-

Not as such. They did a post about Polanski's wife saying what a stand-up guy he is, and that she thought what happened with her husband and his rape victim was "the crazy permissiveness of the 70s". They felt for her because she was married to a rapist and was probably compelled to feel that way.

Some young woman posted that she totally knows how Polanski's wife feels, because she had a male friend who upskirted her female friend and went to court for it, and was really sorry for it man, so she was friends with him again cause he's a really nice guy! So you can do something wrong and still like someone, blah blah.

I about lost my shit at this point and said that her friend was a douchebag who deserved no friends at all, that she was betraying her other friend, and that by saying the shit she was in a post about Polanski, that she was a rape apologist.

I get called a HORRIBLE PERSON cause I have no forgiveness in my heart.

I'm the one that's banned, btw.

Absolutely. And it was a very small survey.

WHAAAT

I'm sorry, but I've known several women who were totally fucked-up by guys...guys who I *thought* were nice in the beginning but ended up doing horrible things...FUCK forgiveness. If my friendship is that important to them that they'll suffer because I never want to see their slimy faces again, good. Let them suffer.

It's called consequences. If you're going to be a horrible person, I will treat you like a horrible person. Not a hard concept!

Man, fuck Jezebel.

OMG. Just...OMG. Yes, women should be on their guard (though we shouldn't have to be :-(), but it is NEVER their (or I guess our) fault. NEVER. And there is NOTHING I hate more than reading/hearing, "Oh, they dressed provocatively" or "Oh, they were dancing in a certain way, so clearly they had it coming." WTFH? Men go off and do whatever the fucking hell they want while we have to live up to society's expectations about what's "proper," and so it's okay if we get literally ATTACKED for trying to live our lives and not restrict ourselves like it's the freaking Victorian age? I expected this from some very ignorant guys, but 54% of women?

I've never been so upset and disappointed with my own gender.

Yeah, that's pretty much my feeling about the whole thing too. Fuck Jezebel. I don't stand with women that throw bitches under buses for acceptability's sake, or the sake of the brand. Screw that noise.

Those survey results actually make me sad more than anything. Because holy shit, we've learned the lessons the patriarchy wants to teach us, and we blame other women because that means we can pretend to be safe.

ETA: obviously, being very angry with these women is a perfectly valid choice, and my pity is coming from a position of safety and privilege.

If they can find a reason to blame victims, then they know it will never happen to them because they won't be as dumb or slutty as they think rape victims are being.

That being said, I have little pity when I hear of a woman like that being attacked. Not happy about it, but I don't feel sympathy, either.

Actually, I think that was a guy. :-/

But yeah that was fucked up. I'm starting to just shrug my shoulders when I think about it, but yeah. That was messed up, yo.

PC people piss me off. I don't think I have to tell you that. They want to be PC and in all honesty, I think the PC culture has contributed to rape culture because it's been taken TOO FAR.

I should clarify: It's not a matter of thinking they "deserved it" or anything. But I've known women who were highly critical and unhelpful to victims and then it happened to them - and they came to me. I patted them on the back, listened to them cry, referred them to rape crisis lines - and then ignored them when they wanted to talk. Usually I told them why. It's not because I'm heartless, but because if I am not able to get their judgment out of my head - for whatever reason - then I feel I am not the best person for them to talk to.
