Today I make an attempt to fix my sleeping patterns. I went to sleep at about 12:30, and I woke up at 4-5 in the morning. Closer to five. Bam. Wide awake. Tried to sleep more, but I couldn't.

Now I'm wide awake, so I'm going to try to stay awake all day. I don't know how successful this will be, considering that when my body decides it's time for hardcore REM sleep? It's really tough fighting it. The worst thing, other than the aching muscles and the intense fatigue, is the crushing depression, anxiety and complete mincing of my perception of reality that occurs when I don't get my much needed rest. This is just a few hours past my bedtime, mind. Not three days without sleep or anything.

This is why it's intensely difficult for me to fix up my sleeping patterns. They usually slowly get pushed out of whack by pain or distraction (staying up doing something, not looking at the time).

I gotta say, it's reaaaally fucking annoying.

What's your optimal sleeping range? Like, midnight to 8 am or something like that?

Usually about 10 pm to 6 am. I feel absolutely wonderful on that amount of sleep.

It doesn't work for everyone, but when I was putting myself back to rights after my last semester of tech school (12 weeks of 36+ hour all-nighters and gallons of coffee, yikes!), I'd just get into bed at the time I intended to sleep, and got up when I intended to get up, whether I'd slept properly or not. No books, no telly, no music - just into bed, and up in the AM, even if I felt like death. It trained my mind that these were it's new sleep hours, and I was fairly successful!

A nice hot cup of herbal tea doesn't hurt, either. :)

Unfortunately "feeling like death" for me can be pretty damned horrible. I am just terrible at being awake when my body wants to be asleep.

Yeah, it doesn't work for everyone to push through and try to stay awake. I know my hubby's like that, even if he's trying his damnest to be awake, he'll just fall right asleep if his body needs it!

I hope you can find a workable solution. :)
