City Homicide:

Two women cops are questioning a victim. Two old dudes are watching behind that window-mirror glass stuff. When one of the old dudes comes in, he says:

"All female tag-team! Better than jelly wrestling, eh?"

...

Fuck you, Channel 7. Fuck you!

Are we supposed to like this guy? If so, it's certainly bad writing. If not, it's probably a good way of displaying what an unpleasant jerk he is.

yeah, without context it is hard to tell if it is the character or the writer that is sexist.

I don't know the context and I don't care. There was no negative consequence of him acting like that. He was a higher up, someone in charge and it was blatantly disrespecting the women who were working there. It wasn't even funny. It was just bad writing.

sometimes, in fact often, in life there are no negative consequences of people acting like that, including higher ups and people in charge. If it can happen in real life, then sometimes it should happen in fiction.

It's a privilege for you to see that on television and not have it affect you, Dave. It's a slap in my face every time I see stuff like that. It's a perpetuation of a horrible standard. Don't give me the "It happens in real life so it's okay" stuff. Media has a responsibility to not routinely offend the people watching it. It has a responsibility not to perpetuate offensive behaviour.

Don't bring this discussion to me when I'm in this mood, man. Be a friend and drop this.

That is the problem with the internet, is that people can't always determine mood, and can't always tell when the aim is conversation or venting. So we'll talk about it some other time.

I'm not angry or anything, not with you, I just know that in the hormonal state I'm in, I could flip and swear my tits off or something and I don't want to do that with you! *hug*
