What the hell?
Jul. 10th, 2009 05:47 pmI just saw an add telling us how good for us sugar is cause it gives us energy. (O_o) Advertising has gone past the bottom of the barrel. It's hitting the earth's layer of molten mag-mah.
In other news, I went shopping for the yummies for my party. I cannot, absolutely cannot, have a party without all the trimmings. Chips, nibbles, lollies, LOTS OF LOLLIES, dance lights, FOG MACHINE, bubble machine, BLACK LIGHT, mirror balls, glow sticks, decorations!
And my wig arrived! I shall look fucking awesome!! :D I just hope I can find some light pink stockings. :T

Date: 2009-07-10 10:13 am (UTC)I once heard a woman talk about coming up with the advertising campaign 'sugar, it's a natural part of life' and I though "you evil genius!!"
My pet hate in food advertising is when ads say something is made with 'the goodness' of something (like, made with the goodness of grains... or the goodness of milk...). It instantly makes me suspect that the product has little to no nutritional value.
Hooray for the wig!

Date: 2009-07-10 10:18 am (UTC)There was an ad with a very similar slogan, if not THAT slogan in the early 90's. When Nutrasweet was becoming all the rage and sugar industry retaliated by letting everyone know sugar was grown in canefields, not manufactured in a lab like the aspartame in Nutrasweet.

Date: 2009-07-10 04:10 pm (UTC)It's so smug that the first time I read one of those I actually didn't get it. It went straight over my head. It's really, really bad sarcasm and what really irritates me is that it's an ad saying to everyone "there's a lot of misinformation about the sweet, sweet goodness that is HFCS going around" and then spreading FURTHER MISINFORMATION. I mean - they don't actually say anything that isn't technically true, but they make it sound like only ignorant people would think there's anything wrong with the natural sweetener Made From Corn that is HFCS... like it's not chemically treated, like it's not linked in various studies with the rise of diabetes and obesity. They always say "nutritionally it's just like table sugar! Like any food, as long as it's consumed in moderation, it's WONDERFUL!" Fuck you corn industry! Fuck you and your diabetes-juice!
This is me exaggerating out of frustration and general high hormone levels due to being 37 weeks pregnant. ;) But I still hate those commercials. As someone who works for a medical journal that deals with diabetes and hormones, and someone who has taken great pains to educate herself onto exactly what the risks and benefits of HFCS are (and benefits? Very few), I find it incredibly insulting that their ad campaign insinuates that only ignornant people who are buying into the hype would ever believe bad things about it. >:P
Um yeah. So... sugar, huh? I once saw an ad for wood. No shit, straight up wood.

I eat a lot of healthy food cause of my gluten intolerance. It's kind of a blessing, really, cause I miss out on a lot of that highly refined crap. You know, white flour, white sugars, corn sugars, etc. Stuff that people don't need to eat in high amounts but do anyway. I'm surprised by how used to fruit sweeteners I've become. I eat a cereal that's sweetened by fruit juice. Isn't that delightful? It's like fairies pissed on it or something, I love it!
Big industries like corn fructose are fuckin' evil. Manipulative bastards.
