Hey doods.

I've been watching a lot of Golden Girl on Youtube lately. Man, what a wickedly funny show! It was so empowering for women, too. You could be in your fifties and still sexy and vital. I like that, I doubt you could do a show like that these days. Plus Dorothy (Bea Arthur) had the BEST one-liners. Holy shit, she was awesome!

Do you have a favourite episode or Golden Girl moment? I'm really loving Bea's performances, though I love all of the ladies utterly.

One thing - it really makes me miss my Mum. It makes me feel better about loving my Mum and missing her so damned much, though. I mean, the character of Dorothy loves living with her mother, and she's in her fifties. And she's totally okay with that, it's not portrayed as being weird or lame or anything. It helps me feel good about staying with my folks and helping them out and enjoying their company. I guess, if you get along with your parents, and they make you happy - why not enjoy it while you can?

I just hope that one day I have a little one, and that we're as bonded as my Mum and I are.

Heh, I'm watching it now. I used to love it so much as a kid but now the joke's are funnier since I'm older and can understand them.

HAHA. My best friend says I'll be just like her when I get old. *is Southern* But I don't think she means it as a complement... >.

If you're anything like Blanche, that's fucking COOL.

Oh, I took it as a complement! I just don't think she meant it as one. LOL. I have no issues being THAT comfortable with myself at that age!

I totally took on her characteristics by accident from my GG marathons. My sister and I were talking about a guy, and I said "If he doesn't like me, it's his loss. I'm witty and adorable!"

*nodnod* I mean, sure she's classified as a "slut". But you know? What's so bad about being in control of yourself and your sexuality? All of the girls are VERY pro women. I love it.

I really don't like The Golden Girls. It's one of those fingernails-on-the-chalkboard kind of shows for me, like Everybody Loves Raymond (because the title of that show is a lie!! Not everybody loves Raymond!! I HATE RAYMOND!! THAT DICK!!! I'M FILING SUIT AGAINST THE STUDIO FOR FORCE THEM TO CHANGE THE TITLE ON ALL THE DVDS WORLDWIDE TO "EVERYBODY LOVES RAYMOND EXCEPT FOR GRANT WHO THINKS HE'S A DICK!!!!!!")

Sorry, got distracted for a second.

Did you ever see Golden Palace, the spinoff/second series they did?

Yeah, it was really cool! I doubt the show would mean as much to a straight guy as it would a woman. Guys routinely have love interests and adventures right into their fifties. Turn on any crime show. There'll be an old guy having some drama in his life. Women - we're useless past a certain age, as far as society is concerned. But we did have this show, and it was perfectly normal to be an older woman. And they weren't hiding away or being old nuns. They were having fun and doing their thing and being snarky. I find it very comforting, probably because there's not really any darkness in it. I mean, they discuss death routinely, and becoming old. But they're all about living and enjoying life, and I just love that.

But I hated Raymond too, you weren't the only one. Stupid oaf.

I find Everyone Loves Raymond an odd experience. Marie is like an Italian-American version of my Dutch Oma. In fact, the whole family's is kind of like my Dad's family, only my Opa doesn't argue with Oma as much as Raymond's dad does.

my favorite episode of Golden Girls was actually the last one. I was literally bawling from start to finish. Dorothy finally gets her happy ending. =oD

I've been recording it on my DVR. I watched it as a kid, but like the others have said, now that I'm older I get soooo much more of the jokes and it's that much better.

And my favorite episode is when they're trying to save the tree and Rose "kills" the grouchy old woman. The funeral home scene when they're trying to get the casket picked out...ZOMG.
