logansrogue: (Shut UP YOU BASTARDS!)

So, I phoned the laptop repair shop today and discussed the possibility of just fixing the fan and not bothering with the audio jacks.   They said that they couldn't promise me that that would make it work, that it'd cost me 265 bucks for an uncertainty.

Talked to Mum, we both agreed that we don't have the dosh for what amounts to an experiment.

SO.  Obviously, I need a new laptop.  The only way I'll get the money for such a thing is through art commissions.  Which, isn't looking too good with the global economy right now.

I'm so frustrated!  And I have a headache, which is making it hard for me to concentrate on shit.  I might have to go back to bed for a while.  I've lost the forms for my Disability application and I have to do all this writing for my psychologists appointment this afternoon.  All I want to do is crawl into a hole until my head gets better.

Ugh. That is indeed frustrating.

Have you thought about the ASUS Eee PC? It's a teeny tiny laptop that I've seen a lot of folks carrying around at uni; super compact and with limited functionality, but cheap. It wouldn't be any use for art, but if you have a shared desktop you can use for that and just want the laptop for writing and the internet, it might be a good option? I mean, much easier to raise the funds for a $4-500 mini laptop than a $1500 Macbook, for example. There's some stuff on cheap laptops with a bit more functionality here too.

not to be ignoring the options from Dell and Acer as well.

From what I've been able to ascertain, the Asus were first in the market with a netbook, but the other comers are now providing better products. Asus still has the largest range ...
The Acer AspireOne is shiney and so is the Dell mini Inspiron 9. They also have usable keyboards, whereas the Asus EEEEEEEeeeeee's all have horrible little keys made for people with matchsticks for fingers.
