I was having a real rip-roaring argument with my Dad tonight.  Anyone with a splash of Latin blood will tell you that it's a completely normal thing to have from time to time. This time it was about the distribution of household chores (I apparently wasn't doing enough, when in fact I do a fair amount, I just leave cups around sometimes because I'm a forgetful twit). 

In the middle of apoplectic rage, as I was shouting rather loudly at my father, I felt someone put their hand on my arm and try to calm me down.  They were next to me and looking into my face intently.  It had the vibe of 'little kid' but I was so busy being furious that I didn't register who it was.  I nearly said, "Yeah, yeah, hang on, will you?" as if it were any other person.

It wasn't till I'd finished my horrible tirade that I looked down and realised that it had been Rogue.  She'd been putting her paw on my arm and meowing at me imploringly, both asking if I was all right and why was I yelling so much?  It was REALLY bloody weird.  It was enough to shut me up at any rate.

Since when do cats care what we stupid monkeys do, outside of feeding them and adoring them?  Rogue seems to really depend on my happiness.  The other week, when I was sick?  She wouldn't bloody get off me.  It wasn't until my fever broke that she left me alone.

Wow. That was weird. Not that animals don't sense our moods, but the paw and the look? Wow.

My cat knows when I'm feeling depressed and will cuddle and rub his head on me to make me feel better.

My big orange cat, Tigger, actually adopted us and he is my cat all the way. He knows when I'm down, or angry, and has such a personality. One day he jumped up onto our porch railing and we noticed he had something in his mouth. My hubby jumped up quick to close the door before he could get in, and we saw that he had a live lizard! He looked so hurt that we wouldn't let him inside with it. He had brought me a present, and was upset that I wouldn't let him give it to me. He also reacts when the baby is upset and crying, he sticks close to me until he's calm. He's the sweetest cat ever :)

Aren't they odd little animals?! You wouldn't think a supposedly solitary social animal would have that kind of behaviour wired into them, but give them half a chance and... wow!

I mean, Rogue's as dumb as a post most of the time. The other day though, she opened a door with a door knob. That was pretty impressive. But once she got the door open, she couldn't figure out how to jump down from the desk by the door, when it was a pretty straight-forward jump out the door. She's an idiot savant.

Rogue does that with lizards too. She gets SO EXCITED when she manages to actually catch something, it's so funny to see her spaz out. She never can understand why we let them go again, she finds them ever so much fun. (Eat them though? She hasn't made that leap yet, and I hope she never does).

I got a documentary on housecats when I was a kid, and appearantly prey = food is something that has to be taught. So unless you have an adult cat taking on the role of "what the point of hunting is" lecturer, I think you're safe. :)

Hmm, well she knew to eat the cockroaches she caught. Ish. She left bits lying around. She doesn't seem to know to eat lizards, though. Or maybe she has eaten them and I wasn't there to see it.

I think in a cat's mind, cockroaches are more chewy than alive. Lizards might be more obviously alive. Not alive as another cat or a feedmonkey might be, but rather like it moves on its own without being pushed around. :D
