Feminist rage? Let me show you it!

Someone thinking they're being snarky and cool about post-war women, puts a coffee pot into the hands of our dear Rosie the Riveter.

Hence, I want to break shit. Somehow, I don't think the 'artist' realises the implications of their piece. D:<

ETA: My brother cracks my shit up! He said, "HAhaha! Why didn't they just get a bag of sand and stuff it in your vagina?!" He was laughing at them, not me, by the way. I can see the funny in my hair-trigger feminist rage, thankfully. LOL!

You've seen the rosie the riveter poster. But did you know that when the men got back, they wanted Rosie to serve coffee like any old admin or secretary? A great gift for feminists or receptionists!

Are they serious? If I gave any feminist this pillow she'd use it to smother me to death.

Yeah. That was pretty much my reaction, too.

The implication that women post-war were simply expected to return to their pre-war roles?

It's not something you celebrate with a throw pillow, though. It's like celebrating Gandhi by having a throw pillow of him with a bleeding bullet wound or something.

I would have thought it's meant to be more passion-stirring than celebratory?

Well, most people have on pillows things they treasure or love. You snuggle and feel comfort with that pillow as well as making a statement. Why would one want a pillow that has something on it that makes them mad? The psychology is all wrong. I get it, I get the point they're trying to make but it's really mixed up and badly executed.

Plus the implication that being an admin or a secretary is something less than being a riveter... work is work, right? Admin and secretarial work is really tough. They deserve as much respect as any other woman. It's like maligning a woman for being a mother.

It's not maligning the secretary, it's maligning the society that gives her no choices other than secretary.

It is an odd choice of item to put it on- maybe it could be delivered to me while I am asleep to motivate me to get up and take action when I wake up?

After looking at their other items I think this chick is making the joke from the woman's (or admin's) perspective. It's meant to be cynical and sarcastic. Not sure those are the right words.

Anyway, it's a lame joke which can easily be taken the wrong way.
