I'm sitting here doing my comic, right? Toning it in, doing it black and white because that's the only printing I can afford for the moment (and it lends a charming 50s look to it, I think) and one thought keeps dominating my decisions as I go along. It's something I learnt as I was researching Op and Pop art when I was a teenager.

I was looking into Roy Lietchenstein and all that he did, and one line popped out at me when I was reading about him.

He was looking at comics and it occurred to him that every panel was a work of art.

It's a way of thinking I've kept with me as I've worked on my comic skills the past ten to fifteen years. Every frame I do, I want to be able to exist on its own as an art piece. Unfortunately this slows me down TERRIBLY cause I get far too fussy over every single panel. The other upshot is that each panel looks fucking fabulous. But seriously - it's slowing me down! So I'm trying to stop fussing and accept my style and realise that it doesn't have to be OMG BEST THING I'VE EVER DONE. LOL. It just has to be very good. :)

Your art is always amazing and each piece is a reflection of your talent and dedication. You are an incredible artist. So whatever works for you, keep on doing it. :)

Your story about Lietchenstein reminded me of something my son once said. While not an artist, he has always been quite artistic. Once when he was two years old, drawing on paper with crayons, I asked him what he was drawing. He looked up with the most serious face and said, "A masterpiece." That struck me to be funny and profound coming from a kid. I bought him colored pencils and better paper the next day. Just in case. :)

Thank you so much, Sherry. It means the world. And hey - I have another H/Hr piece in the works. It's going to be so damned cute. :D

Your son was absolutely right, by the way. Some of the best art I've ever seen has come from children. They don't have preconcieved ideas of what art is supposed to look like. They just put their heart and dreams on paper and it's absolutely wonderful. :)
