Dear Sims 2 Custom Content Creators,

I understand the allure of Egypt. It's an exotic country steeped in mystery, beauty and a fair amount of style. I myself am deeply in love with the country and its rich history. I'd like my Sims abodes to carry some of that culture, perhaps some desert-y looking walls and an artifact or two to make the place look really pretty. Putting Egyptian content on walls, furniture, posters - this I understand. But does it have to be on EVERYTHING?

Atwa, for the love of Ra, not EVERYTHING Egyptian has to be black and gold!! And just because you colour your phone, security system and stove in beige, burnt sienna and mudbrick red does NOT mean it's automatically Egyptian!

And for the rest of the skinners, here's something you don't do. You DON'T put the famous, beautiful murals that bedeck the walls of the tombs of kings on rugs and FLOOR TILES. For people to STEP on. It just shows a certain lack of respect for the subject matter, you know? It's as bad as that toilet seat I saw with king tut tomb wall carvings all over it. Blatantly disrespectful.

Yours,
Nancy.
Fellow Simmer.

What stupidity is this? And an Egyptian toilet seat? Okay, even Egyptians had to go but to put tomb decorations on it it just wrong.

And speaking of the black and gold ... I always associated Egyptian stuff with color - and lots of bright, vibrant colors. I'm currently working on an Egyptian-style bracelet and it includes turquoise, lapis, coral and gold beads.

The Egyptians did love their colour. Wild colours on a sandy background - that's Egyptian. And only the Egyptians can really do it right. When other people try, they totally miss the mark (with a few exceptions I've seen).

I think Gustav Klimt was succesful with combining golds and blacks with other ornamental colours. He was very clever with gold leaf and gem stones though, he had a good understanding of jewellery. That's why he was so "buddy-buddy" with the fashion crowd. That and his mistress was a designer :)

You KNOW I love black and gold stuff. Klimt employed it beautifully.

But if you go and see atwa's work at thesimsresource.com you'll see what I'm moaning about. Tacky to the max!

Yeah, you showed me it before. It was amusing. I was just saying that Klimt was one of the people that could successfully imitate the stunning colour scheme of the Egyptians and other similar ancient styles of art.
