You know those assholes that ask you for change, but end up asking you for like, five to nine bucks? They give you some fucking sob story? And they go, "Aw, thanks man, I'll pay you back!" and you never hear from them again?

Well, this dude ripped Dad off nine bucks last time for TRAIN FARE, which it totally doesn't cost that much here in Perth unless you live in Joondalup or some shit. He comes to the door again, Dad recognises him, and totally verbally bitch-slaps him in a thick German accent about taking his money and never paying him back. He didn't swear, he didn't say anything unkind, he just laid it out that he wasn't happy about being screwed out of money and that it wasn't happening again.

It was so fucking cool. I can't even remember what he said word for word cause it was so fast. LOL!

I'm one of those guys who tends to be sucked in by people panhandling. When we went to Dragon*Con last year, we were using their metro system. The way their system works, you buy a magnetic ticket which is good for a single entry onto the subway.

On our way to the convention, someone hit Kathleen, Alice, and myself up for some "subway fare". If I wasn't cashless, I might have. But Kathleen did something better. She offered him the remaining pass on her ticket. He refused.

Rejecting the panhandlers the rest of the weekend became very easy for me after that point in time.

Yeah, my sister is like that. She says to them, "I'll give you money for food or for train or bus fair, I'll come with you to buy it, but don't ask me for money to blow on alcohol."

Yay for your dad. You know, I fell to a similar scam a couple months ago - maybe in March or April? I was outside a McDonald's waiting for [livejournal.com profile] ladybluestar who was visiting town that weekend (her parents live a few miles from me) and some dude came up and said he'd left his wallet a couple miles away and his daughter was in a car accident and he needed $11 to buy gasoline (petrol) so he could get back to where he lived, which is like 100 miles from here. So I gave him $11. Then about 3 weeks later, the same dude walks up to my car as I pulled into the parking lot at a restaurant like 8 miles away. And he starts with the same sob story about needing some money so he can get back to WISCONSIN RAPIDS. Well, it might not have been the same dude, but once burned twice shy, and I said, nope, no way, not again and drove to a different part of the parking lot. Oy.

I came across a beggar in Chicago who gave me a sob story and I gave him $2 ... then he has to gall to go on telling me it's not enough. I told him then he should go beg from someone else because I'm fucking poor too. Asshole. :/

Yeah, complaining about how much someone gives you is not right. I give what I can when I can to charities and stuff, usually loose change, and it is honestly *all* I can afford.

And those places are where you should donate anyway ... at least you don't have to worry about them squandering your hard-earned money on booze or drugs. :/

Exactly! I stick to Red Cross and The Samaritans cause, really, I know where the money goes.
