Un-inked base sketches: Protest art

Hey everyone.
Tina and I decided to do a series of drawing that depict the big heroes of DCU and Marvel in delightfully provocative and cheesecake poses. The *male* big heroes. All of these poses have been on covers and splash pages of comics, with women characters displaying them. It's about time we turned it around and showed it up for the ridiculousness of it all, don't you think?
Tina's drawings
Nightcrawler:

This brings to mind a classic Tigra pose. It's the old wheelbarrow with the 'come hither to my behind' kinda look.
Gambit:

Cocked hips, flirty smile. Emma Frost could be posing like this. But instead it's Gambit. Oh Gumbo, you tease!
Wolverine:

My favourite in this series, I think. Wolverine showing the world what he's got. Is it sexy time nao, plz?
--
My drawings:
Superman:

I didn't intend for this to have a vague resemblance to George Reeves, it was kinda an accident. Except, you know, he's ripped. Check it - it's a super banana hammock!
Batman:

It's Batman! Slightly gimpish with some hella foxy boots.
Cyclops:

My personal favourite of my drawings. I giggled as I drew this one. Often female characters are drawn in spine-cracking poses where both an angle of the front and the behind are seen at one time. In the spirit of Emma Frost's "Fleshy X" pattern in her white costume, Cyke here has hot-pants jumpsuit thing (if you can call it that - it's just strategically placed straps of stretchy fabric) that form an X over his arse. The centre of the X is right over his butthole. Just in case you missed the symbolism, there. It's so you gay boys know where to blow.
I have to ink these puppies (My ones, not Tina's - Tina will ink her own) then colour them in in photoshop. Probably not tomorrow cause I'm feeling really quite awful and weak after a terrible headache I had tonight. Seriously, I still feel nauseous. I think it was what the doctor called a Muscle Contraction Headache cause after Mum massaged my scalp and neck and got some chamomile tea down me, it calmed right down. I took some painkillers too, but I think calming down helped a lot. I was going out of my skull for a minute there! But I feel heaps better now. Chamomile tea is fucking awesome, yo!

Date: 2007-05-30 09:08 pm (UTC)But your post just made me realize that I CAN write scripts of "comics" where male characters are treated by females the way, traditionally, that male characters treat females in their comics.
"Iron Man, leave the thinking to the women. Go over their and punch the bad guy until he's unconscious."
"Wait? Dr Strange is being mentally controlled to sleep with a women he absolutely no interest in and they are about to head off to a parallel dimension where his magic is nullified and he can never escape? Sounds nice. Hey, check out the way Wolverine looks in that speedo!"
*thinks of story ideas*

Date: 2007-05-31 01:07 am (UTC)First, and on a more serious nature, I've been shielding the images while I'm at work for NSFW nature. Yet, I don't have to do that for typical comic females. That is quite the statement about our culture.
Second, Gambit (my favorite ex-X-Men) is pretty damn hot. And I say that as a straight male.

Date: 2007-05-31 01:11 am (UTC)I'm the aforementioned wife. Husbands secure in their sexuality enough to agree with me on the hotness of Gambit (especially in that illustration) are sexy. ^ v ^
