Interesting! I followed the link to "What is the purpose of the hymen?" and they claimed that even scientists didn't know why it was there. All I can say is did any of them think to ask a mother? I'll admit I didn't understand why it was there either...until I had a daughter. Any mother who has changed a baby's dirty nappy will know it gets in everywhere. The hymen is there to stop poo from entering the infant female's vagina! Until she is old enough to be able to clean herself at least. I guess this is true for a lot of mammals. ;~)
