*Puts pharmacuetial detective hat on*
Jan. 31st, 2007 08:11 amOkay. Last night I had a mood crash of epic proportions. It was totally weird because I've been *fine* psychologically for months. Anyone that's spoken to me or has been around me for that long knows this.
Yet I take the following pills, and I slide right off the rails:
- Ferro-Grad C containing dried ferrous sulfate 325mg, sodium ascorbate 562.4mg
- Blackmore's B6 PMS Support containing Pyridoxine Hydrochloride 240mg, equiv. pyridoxine 197mg
- Endep 10 containing amitriptyline 10mg
Now, the first two are just vitamin pills. Iron for my ever-low iron levels and B6 to help me with the horrendous bloating and other PMS things that I have cause, really, I'm terrible with it comes to that week before my periods. The third is Endep, a pill I used with absolutely *no* troubles a little more than three weeks ago. Yet last night I was a freaking MESS a few hours after taking it.
I'm wondering what the heck has happened? What the difference was? I'm taking more Lovan than I did when I used Endep the last time, but not by much. And this is only because I was terribly forgetful about Lovan when having to take a slew of pain-relief drugs for the migraines, and once I was off them (and still getting the migraines, mind).
Do any of you with knowledge of drugs on my flist know what could have happened? When I was using Endep before it was the drug from heaven - I was sleeping SO much better, my headaches were practically non-existent. This morning, despite the depression, I've woken up at a reasonable time, well-rested and non-headache-y. I've not felt this good for months. And I'm NOT tired. I actually slept entirely through the night (Though that may have been the one-and-a-half valium which REALLY kicked me in the butt last night, even though a few weeks ago it did practically NOTHING.)
If you can help me piece this puzzle together, I'd be ever so grateful!!

Date: 2007-01-31 10:07 pm (UTC)A couple months ago, I tried a new type of vitamin pill and was an emotional MESS. After two days I stopped taking it and was fine. I switched brands and was fine. Yes, I know your pain regarding buying a whole supply of vitamins only to throw them all away.
Don't take any vitamin pills and Endep together. If you take the Endep at night, take your vitamin pills in the morning - or vice versa. Take them as far apart as possible.
If you are still having problems, see about cutting your vitamin pills in half and taking two halves a day - so you're not getting hit with so much of a certain kind of vitamin at once where your body suddenly goes, "WHOA! WTF is THIS?!" Getting too much of a vitamin at once negatively affects its absorption as well.

My husband has IBS, so I sympathize. I have never heard of the "stay away from wheat" thing, although I think that's more for people who have wheat allergies and unless you have a documented wheat allergy, that won't help you. My husband has to stay away from spicy foods and egg products, because that's what causes his flare ups.
