I'm so enjoying the book. I've nearly finished it - I want more!!

I also want to get the proper movie version, not the redone one. I want the David Lynch cut on DVD! That'd be cool. Is it available? I hope so.

You can get the Alan Smithee 3 hour version of the film on dvd. It makes a shit load more sense than any other version. But i can totally see why it was cut soooooo much for cinema release. I am really looking forward to the Blade runner pack which is coming out soon. It has the ultimate uber director cut on it that has never been released.

I said I didn't want the redone one! That's the EXACT one I'm talking about! I hate it!

You can't re-edit a David Lynch film in the hopes of it making sense. It's like drawing a moustache on the Mona Lisa. Cheap and pointless.

And besides. Dune is not a movie you're going to be able to compact into one movie like you can Lord of the Rings. A LOT happens in LotR that's action based. But Dune is mostly talking and mind-reading in parts. So really, David Lynch did good by adding some action and some real gritty bad guys people could sink their teeth into.

Those that know better, that have read the book, will know the difference.

(I'm a David Lynch fan, though. Seriously. I actually ENJOYED Lost Highway!)

It's been forever since I've read Dune. I should re-read it again. I've never seen the movie though, although I've heard decent things about it.

You're right: David Lynch films are too hard to re-edit. One little essential thing getting cut can make the whole thing just go *kablooey*.

(Pssst. You might wanna check my LJ.)

The Lynch version is very whatever. I love the SciFi miniseries that came out in 2000 like woah, and I cannot stop watching (for serious: I watch it about once a month) the Children of Dune mini that came out after that.

Oh no, I will always love Lynch's movie. It's what got me into it in the first place. Sure, it's not accurate, but it has Kyle McLachlan in it so I don't care. And that Lady Jessica - wow. How gorgeous was she?

I didn't like who they got to play Paul in the miniseries. So badly miscast. He was supposed to be all black haired and stuff. I just hate the pinch-nosed, long-top-lipped American look. Bleah.

I Looooooooooooove Children of Dune though. I want James McAvoy's babies, even if he seems a little gay.
