logansrogue: (Carrie and the Magnetism)
[personal profile] logansrogue
So, today I've been a busy little bee. I've completed the inking of the vargas Carrie girls. I did the pencil work for the Mermaid trio and the Cartoon Vixen trio. They look fabulous. I had no troubles making them their sexiest for those. My girls, I love 'em, they'll put on a show.

But I come to the Marvel Heroines set. I look up the costumes for the girls. I start with Jean Grey. Yup, I'm pretty good with that, I just needed to remember how the yellow triangular phoenix in the middle goes. Right. Move onto Carrie. She's Emma Frost.

... You fuckin' WHAT?! ... YOU WHAT?! Oh - oh that's pathetic! They really published that?! That's supposed to be SEXY? Okay man - I was with you on Emma Frost up till the corset, but this - this is porno territory. This is just STUPID. I love Carrie FAR too much to ever dress her like that.

I mean, seriously. Elektra isn't too much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for characters being sexy, okay? I'm all about the sex!

So I'm going with the Fox Cartoon version of Emma Frost, methinks. You know, old school. With the corset and the fluffy coat. Except I'm giving her PANTS. Because Carrie would break your fucking neck before she let you see her in a g-string in day-to-day dealings.

And really? Elektra wouldn't last five minutes as an action crime-fighter in that get-up. Pah. Boys are so stupid sometimes. *grumbles*

I only see that outfit working if major parts of it is skin-colored fabric.

Realism first, libido later, please.

You know what my first thought was?

She's holding that on with spirit gum or double-sided duct tape. I don't wanna be her when she has to go to the ladies.

I like corsets, yes; I like French knickers, yes; I even have no objections to arm-length gloves and thigh-highs. But I like them realistic and I prefer them to look as if you're not praying they stay on when you breathe.

Yeah, you're absolutely right. I know I must seem so un-fun and stodgy, but gosh. Where's a little thing called self-respect?

Good grief.

Honestly, I don't have a serious problem with unrealistically sexy costumes on comic book superheroes, because...eh. It's fantasy and the target audience (whether they are the most part of the actual audience or not is not the point!) is horny pubescent boys. So yeah, it's demeaning, on a superficial level, but I'm all for fantasy women/female character reclaiming their sexuality as a thing of power.

That said. What. The fuck. Marvel. That's not even an outfit. That's not even underwear. It looks like she fell face-down in a puddle of paint and her enormous fake boobs protected the rest of her body from getting covered in it o_O

Jeez, could they make the costume any tackier? Seriously... I have nothing against sexiness, but that's just plain icky...

I know, I know. It's just so incredibly STUPID. I couldn't put my darling Carrie in that outfit. She's a woman of power, of pride, of regal, wonderful power. She's the kind of woman that would lead an army, or save a child from drowning, or bring a suicidal person from the edge of a precipice. She's a wonderful, powerful, amazing character and I could never, ever, dress her like that. It's so fucking demeaning. *sigh*

And I've dressed her up as Holli WOOD for God's sakes!!

That's the word, Sandy! TACKY. The whole way they draw that character in her stand-alone comics and stuff - she's just TACKY. Porn Queen. She lacks any realism, any grit. Guh.

::blinks:: Oh. Wow. How much carpet tape do you think is keeping her in there?

I saw comic scans of Emma in something that was more akin to a business suit once and she looked pretty damn hot - and this is coming from a straight girl. Funny, since she was actually wearing more clothing then whatever the heck THAT outfit (or lack thereof) is called.

I'm pretty sure this is a "New X-Men" outfit. Marvel tried to sort of give Emma a sexy makeover - it didn't work. So didn't.

So, SO with you. I can't stand the "no real clothes at all" rule on a lot of female heroes. I've always found the original Phoenix costume to be one of the sexiest ever, in fact - the John Byrne era one - and that one covered everything except her face.

Gosh, it looks like her boobs might pop out at any minute. Not a good idea for a character who needs to kick serious ass I would imagine.

Not sure if I'm bugging you or not with this, but did you see this picture? Looks as if Emma Frost was supposed to be in X3, doesn't it?

Considering as it's collar, panties and pasties, everybody has a more sensible outfit... including the local strippers.

IMHO, whoever airbrushed on the costume didn't get the shadows right - on my monitor the collar, gloves, stockings and pasties all look like appropriately-shaped white cutouts painted on the photo. Cloth wrinkles, as well.

Okay, I'm going to be the lone one out here, but I *LIKE* Emma's "reverse X" costume. Say what you will but this is the costume that let her break through the glass ceiling into the A List X-men line up, during Grant Morrison's extremely well selling run. The point of this is that it's the reverse of the (then) X-men uniforms. All the X-men then had a uniform in black that covered everything with a big X plastered on their chest. Emma's is the same pattern but white and the X cut out to show skin. It was kind of rebellious dig at Xavier's uniformity/conformity. There are different versions of it, the better one is with the full leather pants and white long coat she wore with it when going out.

And this is the current costume Emma wears.

Emma sold LOTS of posters in her reverse X costume, and rather pricey statue/busts. I bought them *^_^* But then I have the mad love for Emma Frost. *lurve* And there are lots of Emma wallpapers and net clubs that have a fondness of the Greg Horn paintings of her in that costume. Besides Magneto and Wolverine, Emma is one of the characters considered for an X-men spin off movie. In fact, it's only those three who are mentioned in recent press, and she wasn't even in X3. She's very high profile comic book wise though. Just saw the prelim pages of her in the upcoming : "Phoenix: Warsong" Phoenix Emma looks spiffy!!! (see also Phoenix: Endsong, for more Phoenix Emma goodness *^_^*)

But, my fave will always be the old classic Hellfire Club regalia. *^_~*

Oh no - I saw that, and I LIKED that outfit. And all the comic boys complained about it. Yeah yeah.

They just wanted to see her snatch encased in red lycra. Pervs.

I know you love Emma, and I knew you'd come in to say something. See - that inverted X thing up the top? It has pants! I like pants! The one I linked to had NO PANTS! It was so stupid I didn't even notice the inverted X! I notice it in that picture that you pasted!

And I do like that second one better. Nowhere near as eye-popping.

I just - I would never dress Carrie like that (in the picture I linked to initially). I think she'd smack me sideways till Christmas if I tried! *lol*
