I love me some Easter-time fun. I have my rituals around this time of year, it's my way of being respectful. And even though I'm not a church-going Christian or Catholic (I do go to a Christian Spiritualist Church on rare occasion), I've been brought up with this sort of reverence for this time of year, basically cause my Mum is Catholic. I dunno. I *enjoy* reflecting on the story. I look inside of me and see how it affects me, and it's different every year, because I keep changing and life keeps changing. What it meant to me when I was 18 is different to when I'm 26.

But I don't reflect by reading the actual bible. No. Too much "Thou shalt not!" and so forth. Nup. I watch Jesus movies. It's my ritual. For three days, I watch Jesus movies. There are enough of them to fill the space up, trust me. I don't watch them non-stop, just when I'm not hanging out with my family (which is the other thing I do during Easter).

I'm feeling pretty Pagan this year, though. The main thing running through my head when I was having difficulties finding chocolate goodies on their own and not in a boxed set was "What's a girl gotta do for a cheap chocolate fertility symbol around here?!" Actually, that's probably the extent of my Pagan behaviour (Bunnies and eggs aside). I'm too looking forward to the Jesus movies.

I'll probably do my tradition of putting up screencaps of my favourite Jesus flicks. I might add a particular capture from The Passion. The very end. Phwoah.

DAMN IT. I'm very upset. I don't have "The Last Temptation of Christ", and my little Gnostic heart weeps. I wanna see Willem Dafoe Christ! OH well. So anyway, our traditional Easter line up:

- King of Kings
- The Greatest (LONGEST) Story Ever Told
- Jesus of Nazareth (Mini-series)
- Godspell
- Jesus Christ Superstar
- Ben Hur

If there are any good Barabas movies on or the like, I'll usually sit around for those, too. Shame is that free-to-air TV doesn't really put Jesus movies on anymore. :( Or Easter cartoons with bunnies and shit. I remember when I was a kid it was wall-to-wall Crucifixion and Bunnies for three days! :( How is a girl supposed to sustain the spirit? I guess there's that whole 'faith' thing, but I've never been very good at that.... not in the traditional sense, anyway. I mean, I get very bored praying. I feel weird. Like I'm bothering God. I'm of the thought,"I'll let Him do His job, I'll do mine (being a good person) and we'll both be happy". I only pray if there's something really specific to pray about. Like wishing good for someone, or hoping for someone's recovery, or thanking for some of the good stuff in life.

My actual beliefs are kinda... weird anyway. It's too much to explain, but if you ask, I'll most likely explain. Or try to. *sigh*

Anyway, I'm going to check the local TV guide and see what's on offer. Probably sport :T but I may as well check. I might miss something good!

Love you all,
Nancy.

PS - Ooh! Stigmata! Need to add that to my list! :D Yes, I can fit in Particia Arquette into my celebrations!

The Last Temptation of Christ is well-worth watching. I haven't seen it in years but it left a big impression on me; it focused on Jesus' humanity, which is rarely explored.

Ahhh so you HAVE watched it. GOOD. Do you know it was BOYCOTTED and PICKETED in the USA by a bunch of fundamentalists who never actually saw the movie? How dare anyone depict Jesus as even partially human. *snorts*

Oh GOD. Literally! It's not as if he actually DID poke Magdalene (if you choose to interpret it that way). But I'm biased - I'm a terrible Jesus/Magdalene shipper. (LOL not really, it's sort of - complicated.)

Even ol' JC needed a bosom to snuggle to and go "FUCK! The world is fucking CRAZY!"

Have fun, Nancy ;)

I'm of the thought,"I'll let Him do His job, I'll do mine (being a good person) and we'll both be happy".

Awww. I like that thought. :)

I'm being very uncharitable and hanging out on ONTD. But I kinda like to watch Jesus movies with my brothers and sisters, and none of them are here yet.

Don't forget Life of Brian!

My dad and I have the same tradition of watching Jesus movies together before Easter. Usually Last Temptation (which I got for Christmas--strange crossover there!--on DVD, so I'm excited), but sometimes JC Superstar and Godspell, which is my favorite feel-good movie about Jesus. Unfortunately, now that I'm a pastor, my time for actually enjoying Holy Week is next to none, so I may not get to see my Jesus movies for the first time in a long time. Woe is me.

Being such a big Jesus-movie fan, I've been kind of amused by the whole 'Gospel of Judas' thing. People are all surprised by the concept that maybe Judas was in on it the whole time, that he did exactly what Jesus wanted him to do. And I'm thinking, have these people never *seen* Last Temptation, or at least JC Superstar?

LOL. There's a lot of Judas hate out there. I have never hated him, maybe it's because of my high intake of 70s rock operas as a child that made him a sympathetic character, who knows. Godspell describes it very well... it was a story, a spell being woven around the people to make them look at the world differently. I like that metaphor.

Wow, I had no idea you were a pastor! That is so cool!

Yep. I'm a United Methodist pastor-- a Remus/Sirius shipping, gay rights activating, deep-thinking, prochoice, pacifist, bleedingheartliberal pastor. This is why I rarely use my RL name or info online, just in case, you know, THE CHURCH is watching.

I'm also a former catholic, hense my great ejoyment of your poking fun at the mother church. She and I split when it because clear that I could never follow the vocation to c=which I feel called within the Catholic church. I'm a much more contented Methodist!

Hehehe, go you. There need to be more Christians like you in the world, I think. You know, people that actually *get* what Jesus was trying to say. LOL.

Catholicism is fun to laugh at. My mother laments at my sense of humour and doesn't stand next to me in thunder storm.

How funny - I'm doing my Good Friday tradition of watching Godspell as I type! You Are the Light of the World is on right now=) In fact, it's also Titanic night, so I will be watching that as well to make it a true Victor Garber night.

When my brother expressed surprise at my watching Godspell, all's I said was that it was Good Friday. His reply was that it was sick and twisted.

But I'm so glad that I'm not the only one!

And on a side note, my Godspell tape is wearing out - I definitely need to invest in the DVD.

Oh, mine is in utter crap condition. Not only was the reception bad when I taped it, but the tape screwed up somehow WHEN taping it so here and there the singers voices warp. Very weird.

I usually reserve Godspell for the Sunday, cause it's all happy and celebratory. But I do enjoy watching our darling Victor splash about in nothing but a pair of short shorts. *drool* That talented man!!

Yes, I too need to get the freaking DVD of it. And JC Superstar as well.

The sad thing is that mine's a bought copy from when it was re-released in '98, so it's not that old! My 20 year old or so copy of Rainbow Brite and the Star Stealer, which was a rental copy originally, is in better condition!

That's true; it's is truly happy. Just singing some of the songs this morning put me in a hyper mood! And I love how cute Victor is throughout the whole movie - esp in the shorts! "Hey! I wanna get washed up!"
