She may very well eat him afterwards. That does tend to happen, especially since he's smaller.

Oh, I won't be surprised if she does. :) That's why I've refrained from calling the male spider "Dickon".

I know. I'll probably end up calling him that anyway. He's all small and brown.

it disturbs me that you are excited over the sex life of a spider, your sex life must be sadder than mine

It's more of a pride thing than a 'Ooh I'm getting off' thing, Ryan. She's almost a pet to me. I'm proud of her!

But since I have endo and rarely leave the house, and my life is pretty much ruined till I get this fixed, my opportunities to go out and date are slim to none. :-P So it's not my fault.

Sorry! I'm scared of her too! Believe me! But I've been watching her for so long I kinda got attached to her.

I'm really terrified of spiders, believe it or not!

No, that's Mary. Mary is much bigger than this one. And you must realise - this is a HUGE close-up. She's no bigger than a 25 cent piece (or a 20c piece if you're Aussie, and if you're from anywhere else - a little longer than an inch).

Well, I read on a spider myth site that they don't always eat the male, that that only tends to happen in captivity (and since Mary is free, she's not technically captive). So the little guy *might* live. I'm hoping so!

If she doesn't..does that mean you're going to be housing a spider and her offspring? because..those little things pop out 100 creepy crawlers a'time you know
Soon ,you won't be able to see your cactus anymore *shudders*

i'm arachnofobic as hell..and i won't say Mary doesn't scare me atleast a bit..but she's cute and as i'm getting a tarantula for my birthday next year( call it shock therapy) keep me updated will you?

Oh my gosh, you ARE brave! I applaud you!

I've seen house spiders breed in our kitchen before. The only thing that worries me is that she's so much closer to the sink and the plates this time. When they're on the roof, you just get all these little black spots on the roof. Baby spiders usually disperse as quickly as possibly, though, so that they don't get eaten, so I'm hoping that they don't stick around.

Except one or two. Just like in Charlotte's Web. LOL!

hah! Don't applaud me.It's my best friend's idea.He says he's buying me one ( and he's serious as we already went to watch a couple of spiders, look at the prices, which kind is the nicest and most easy to house etc.) because he's tired of me having a small crisis over every little spider we encounter. (and in Belgium there are enough spiders..believe me)

The most horrible part is that i will not go *near* that spider the first week or so (i almost fainted when we were at the pet's shop) and my mother is going to have to feed it..she'll grow tired of it and i'll *have* to take care of it and i *know* i'm going to feel sorry for the poor thing and give it all my love after a while (that's me..whe have 6 cats,2 horses,1 dog and a dozen rabbits) and i'll be stuck with a frickin' tarantula for christ'sake..

Anyway..i love Charlotte's web!! ( i'm named after that book) ooo..and i guess baby spiders are cute..i mean, what can they do right?) my tarantula is going to be a baby too..not that it matters because it'll still be bigger than the average spider..and man, i'm so scared that it'll get out of it's terrarium and crawl around in my room.

I hate my best friend..he knows me too well..gah..want to see a picture of the spider we'll most likely buy?

Just make sure you don't let it out. I think, if you contain a spider, you won't feel so bad about it. Mary stays in one spot all the time, so I feel secure in her presence. She's also MUCH smaller than your regular tarantula. LOL.

yes, that's the thought behind it. He says that if i have to take care of a tarantula i won't freak out from any other spider since they are much smaller and less scary as a tarantula.

I just hope i'll be able to get used to him/her.But the shopkeeper said it's good to take them out once in a while and let it walk over your hand and stuff..uuuuuhm..how about NO!!?

they eat roaches..yuk..i don't know which freaks me more..the thought of having a tarantula or having roaches in my fridge.

Image

atleast she's sort of pretty..no? ..*is nauseous*

Dude - your spider will have MOON BOOTS on her legs! NATURAL MOON BOOTS! You have to call her something really cool!!

Of course, this is me talking about a picture. I'd probably cry if she was in front of me!!

lol, i'm already close to tears when i see her picture..but i must admit she's got a nice colored pattern..and she's one of the less scary tarantula's we've seen .some were like..less fury and you could see the outline of their body really good.
To me fur = cute.. so the more fur the better.

but her fangs!!I know they're not able to poison a person and are not likely to do so when you buy them from a good store but dear God!

I'm thinking about calling her Martha Stuart or something..i don't know.Or how about I-scare-the-shit-out-of-Charlotte?

brrrrr..i hope to god i can convinse Tom to buy me a gecko,a turtle..hell even a snake!! i'd prefer a boa constrictor above *that* (points up ^)

I like reptiles, actually. Not scared of them in the slightest. Could be that I'm Australian, so we see them a bit when we're kids. (Bobtails, geckos, etc).

It might be really good for you, and if it doesn't work out, you can always sell her back to the store. (Can you? Do they treat spiders like goldfish?) I was scared of Mary at first but I've looked at her so often and gotten used to her that now I actually find her cute. I would never touch her (house spiders can have nasty bites) but I do enjoy looking at her and talking to her. :)

Again - tarantula, totally different. HUGE SPIDER! EEP!
