Why is everyone so surprised he's gay? I thought he'd given out this information years ago... am I on crack? Or is my gaydar better than I realised?!

People are like, "Sulu's gay!" and I'm like, "Yeah, and? Who didn't know that?!"

So weird!

You're bi, so naturally you have good gaydar :D I'm not terribly surprised at all. And frankly, his sexual orientation isn't any of my business so I've never thought about it.

It's just something I heard years ago. *shrugs*

I just didn't ever keep up with most of the Original Trek cast. For all I know, they're ALL gay. *G* I have read Leonard Nimoy's biography (the second one, that is) and he didn't mention it... gasp! Lying by omission! Death to Spock! *G* As soon as I saw the headline though, I kinda went "Duh!" I guess my gaydar has been dully pinging me about Takei for a while now and I never paid it no mind. ^_~

I'm still waiting for Vin Diesel to come out. It's not so much that he really sets off any bells as it is... he doesn't seem STRAIGHT, either. *g*

Like I said to someone else, it's just something I heard years ago and thought "Hah. That's awesome! Go Sulu!" and forgot about it.

Well, Misty reckons the grapevine screams a big "Totally gay" but can you really trust hearsay? I trust my own gaydar which screams out "CAMPER THAN A ROW OF TENTS!"

My friend does a great George Takei impersonation. His favorite thing to say is "Smoke a pole with George Takei" Like it's some sort of commercial.

Cracks me up every time.

GO GEORGE!

Hehehehe. Totally. First thing I thought when I heard he was gay was, "Oh no. He's been having to hide it all those years. That poor bastard!"

Now it's all cool so he can be out with it. Good on him!

He's the funniest guy to imitate from Star Trek, for sure. Everyone goes for the Cap'n Kirk but George Takei voice just gets me rolling.

I simply thought he was refined.

*grins*

Yeah, that's how Matthew woke me this morning:

"Tara, hon', wake up."
"Hmmm... m'okay."
"Guess what... GEORGE TAKEI'S GAY. He came out this morning."
*alert*
"No way!"
"Yeah!
"Really?"
"Yeah."
"Wow...."

And then it wasn't too surprising... I mean, the most surprising thing to me is how discreet he's been all these years. Good for him! Glad to know someone can have some privacy in Hollywood.

Well, it's not THAT much of a secret cause I knew about it, and if some random woman in Perth knows about it, I can assume a lot of hard-core Trek fans, particularly fans of the old series like me, would know about it, too.

It was news to me and I'm a big ole Trek fan. Not that it matters if he's gay or not. He's still got that cool voice. :-D

I think I have a autographed topless picture of him somewhere though.

there's just something about hearing that dreamy voice constantly extolling the virtues of mysticism or navigation that makes me want to melt... heh....

I've been waiting for the late-night comedians to have a field day with this - especially Jon Stewart. (Somehow, I'm imagining a montage of out-of-context scenes with him smiling at Chekhov, and of course him bounding around shirtless with the fencing foil, in the tradition of your sis's montage of Kirk and Spock in all their various chains and leather attire over the years.)

Thus far, Bill Maher is the only one I've seen - he observed that George Takei has come out...and Katie Holmes says she still loves him. ;)
