I want to buy someone's old unwanted laptop.

I'm talking five years old or more. Something that will simply run Wordpad and play a CD, because I just want to sit in bed and type on the fucker. The cheaper the better so if I drop it, it's no huge drama.

I'll probably poke around on eBay, but I wanted to ask around those I knew, cause I thought it might be nice to buy something and have that money go to a friend. :)

PS. I am loving my job. It's hard, but I love it.

And speaking from my own experience in buying the afore-mentioned old laptop on eBay, I discovered A) the horrors of having your bid sniped, and B) that it's actually less expensive to pay more for one that does have everything you need than to buy a "fixer-upper" and upgrade. (Because the amount I spent adding a larger hard drive and buying more memory would have gotten me a much better laptop had I simply added that amount to what I was willing to bid.)

I came here completely randomly, but if you're still looking come... June, say, I have an HP Omnibook 3000 I'd be willing to sell you. It plays cds and will run Wordpad - I've got Microsoft Word on there at the moment. I also have a floppy drive you can switch the cd drive out with.
