So I thought I'd post it here instead:

So apparently the Liberal Party are setting their sights onto Medicare, considering things like not covering GP visits (those pesky little things that filter out the serious stuff from the less serious stuff and keeps the ERs and hospitals relatively clear of small cases). As a woman with a disability who NEEDS her doctor's visits and could not afford to go should Medicare stop covering them, I offer a hearty THANKS to anyone that voted for the fucking Liberals. I am now looking down the barrel of some serious fucking hardship. I need to see a doctor monthly at least to a) monitor my chronic pain condition (endometriosis which sometimes needs surgery), b) monitor my medications that go along with that condition and c) deal with all the little extras that come along with having a major pain condition (IBS, urinary tract problems, migraines, etc). I am so angry and so mad about this, I barely have the words. I don't know how anyone with a clear conscience can vote for the Liberals. It's basically saying you care more about money than people's lives. I know *so* many people that are going to suffer for this, that are already suffering under the current system, and it's only going to get worse. And the government is blithely wandering Australia down the shitty road the US has been on for the past fifteen years. News flash: IT'S NOT A ROAD YOU WANT TO BE ON.

It's just weird to read these rants aimed at "Liberals," considering it'd be flipped here, label-wise. I know it's just a name, but I'm wondering how on earth your liberals are like our conservatives with that name. I associate liberal with a willingness to examine what should be better possibilities for the populace, not take things away and make life harder (that's the Teabaggers, which I will persist in calling them rather than Tea Party, because I believe it aptly illustrates how damn dumb they were to go off proudly proclaiming they were Teabaggers in 2009 without doing a 10-minute Google search - and then scrambling to pretend they'd never used the term. Sort of like how they push for the dismantling of social services, but scream like BANSHEES when you threaten to end their Social Security and Medicare ... just to bring this back on topic).

Oh, and our conservatives have been after social services for longer than 15 years - that's just what's visible bubbling over the cauldron. The Bushes &Friends started getting their hooks in during the early 70s by seeping into White House jobs. Kissinger hired on Dick Cheney and Don Rumsfeld as staff ... and even Nixon didn't like them. Which is like saying Gordon Ramsey thinks you swear too much. They really started in earnest under Reagan as his staff in the early 80s, advising the abolition of antitrust laws and union-busting for profit, and planting the insidious seeds of "the nanny state" and "welfare nation" to malign hithertofore reasonable public services.

Economically liberal, not socially liberal is the best explanation I have heard.

The Liberal party was also rather further right of where it currently is back in the 50's when it was founded.

Mind you, the ALP (Australian Labor Party, our so-called centre-left major party,) is also rather to the right of where the Liberal Party was back in the 80's and early 90's.

*despair*

I understand that there is an Australian version of the Tea Party that has sprung up. WTF?
