So I totally have to be out of the house and at the hospital in two and a half hours. Why? Well, I'm finally, after all this time, getting my wisdome teeth removed.

I'm thrilled about it, believe it or not, as they have been giving me a horrible time of it for about three or four years now. I have been on a very LONG waiting list. But I can't lie - I am terrified of getting my teeth out. I will be under a general anaesthetic (always nerve-wracking) and they will have to chip and DRILL the teeth out of my jawbone, because they are embedded. Well, one of them is, the other will come out quite easily due to it being a sick tooth.

Do you think they'll let me keep them? They'd make rather grotesque but meaningful additions to my witch staff. It has tufts of fur from felines past and present, my favourite colour, shells from my favourite beach, feathers from the birds that visit us, grass from my yard which is my home soil, that sort of thing. I think the teeth that mark my adulthood would be a kind of cool addition, no?

Anyway, I can't sleep! I'm totally freaking out. I nearly drifted off during an episode of Bob Ross' Joy of Painting, but then my body was all, "NO! DON'T! THE TIME WILL GO BY FASTER AND THEN YOU'LL HAVE NEEDLES AND PAIN! PAIN AND NEEDLES! AND BLOOD!" So yeah, thanks, brain. I really fucking needed that.

Oh well. I figure I'll get *plenty* of sleep afterwards with the huge amount of drugs they'll be pumping into my poor system. They better gimme some sweet fuckin' stuff to make this rigmarole worth it.

I had my wisdom teeth removed in hospital too, long, long ago. Same with the drilling and chipping out. My oral surgeon(s) did not let me keep the teeth. The only tooth I got to keep was removed when I was 9, and that was removed because another tooth was growing directly behind it. The root on that tooth was at least an inch long.

Was the pain truly terrible? :(

I had that kind of surgery when I was forteen for my twelve-year-teeth, so I know what you're in for. Relax, and try to keep your thoughts in check to the most non-panic-state possible, because you will be required to sit still for some while. (Of course I might remember it as going on for a longer time than it did.)

Well, I don't need to keep still, I will be perfectly still - I will be unconscious. They will be putting me under general anaesthetic cause they will be chipping away at bone. A few minutes before I leave for the hospital. SHITTING MYSELF!!

Good luck. I had my wisdom teeth out in the chair, with a local.

Take the drugs!

Good luck!

Wish I'd spotted this before you left though; they didn't give me my fragments after I had them done under GA at age 16, but then I didn't ask for them either..

I didn't get to keep mine, but they were kind of in chunks by the time Dr Anderson was done. (Unexpected extra roots were unexpected.)

You had extra roots in your teeth? Are you mutated? Like Wolverine?!

Awesome. I really wish I was Wolverine right now. Everything would have been set right last night. But noooOOoo, I had to have normal genes. Or at least a mutation to be like a cat, that is terminally lazy and sleeping very long hours.

FFS! Every time I post from my Thunderbird inbox, it comes up with THAT icon. Not that I mind but it's like I'm suddenly RPS'ing these two hard or something, and I'm not! I just thought that moment was adorable and I'm a fan of the both of them!

(Doth protesting too much and all that...)

Yep. Graphic off the BBC web site. They did posters for the whole first season. They may still be doing it - I haven't been in a while.

How did it all go? I remember being very drooly after I had mine removed. But they were growing sideways and starting to squish my other teeth, they had to go.

Drooly, bloody for the first day and a half, but the blood is slowly reducing now. PAIN. SO MUCH PAIN. But I'm dealing with it okay cause I'm bad-ass like that. Or the nerve stuff hasn't worn of properly yet, LOL.

Watch out for dry socket problems, I understand they hurt like a mofo. Ice chips are your friends. Both numbing and they'll keep your mouth from drying out. If I remember right, Ma drank everything through a straw for about a week and the only one of my sister who's had hers out was stoned for three days straight.

And I don't see why they wouldn't let you keep your teeth after they pull them out, in the US people have been allowed to keep grosser things that have been removed.
