I WENT TO SUPANOVA. I MET JAMES MARSTERS, GOT A PHOTO TAKEN WITH HIM AND GOT TO TELL HIM HOW AWESOME HE WAS FOR NOT ACCEPTING RAPE CULTURE (IT'S A LONG STORY, IT WAS RELATED TO HIS Q&A SESSION AND HIS RESPONSE TO A QUESTION ABOUT THAT RAPEY EPISODE OF BUFFY).

I HAD A GREAT TIME, I SPENT TIME WITH REBECCA AND MY SISTER AND MY LITTLE ADORABLE NIECE WHO WAS DRESSED AS STEPHANIE FROM LAZYTOWN. EVERY PART OF THAT DAY WAS AWESOME. I CAME HOME FEELING TRIUMPHANT.

THEN MONDAY MORNING, I REGISTERED FOR UNIVERSITY. I NEVER THOUGHT I WOULD GO TO UNI UNLESS I WAS LIKE FIFTY OR SOMETHING, CAUSE I THOUGHT IT WOULD TAKE UNTIL FIFTY BEFORE I WAS SMART ENOUGH, BUT WITH MY DISABILITY AND EXTRA TIME, I FIGURE, "FUCK IT, MAY AS WELL DO IT NOW."

SO NOW I AM IN UNI. I WILL PROBABLY FUCK IT UP, BUT I AM IN IT, AND I AM GIVING IT A SHOT.

I require more details about his rejection of rape culture, because I want to hate season 6 a bit less.

Somebody asked him about the rapey episode, and he said that it was the episode that sent him to therapy. He got the script and then asked the writers and everyone, "What is this? You really want me to do this? Do you know what you're asking, do you know what this is?" And he said that a lot of people used that sort of plot and didn't know what it meant. He really didn't want to do it and he said it was the hardest episode he shot in the series. I just about cried, and I thanked him for saying what he did cause that episode has been a thorn in the side of my Buffy love FOR YEARS.

Apparently the reason why it happened was Joss had asked the writers to write about something terrible, about the darkest moments in their lives. One of the writers (a woman), forced herself onto her boyfriend for sex, in the thought that it would make the relationship reignite and they wouldn't break up. And she was deeply ashamed and hateful of herself for that moment, so she wrote about it in an episode, but James Marsters said that the dynamic was different when you had a man doing it to a woman. Either way, it's fucked up.

Anyway, yeah, that's why I thanked him. He's a really awesome guy.

Oh, wow. That's fantastic that he recognized it, and understood the elements that make it so universal and so problematic. And I don't want to be happy that it sent him to therapy, but I'm glad he's the sort of man who'd be that upset about having to pretend to rape someone.

I also hate that episode, and hate how it fits into the rest of the season.

I just thought I should tell you what an amazing role model you are. You go through so much, some of which I can relate to and some of which I can't even begin to understand. But no matter what, you are sunny, optimistic and determined to succeed.

There are times I doubt my decision to go to medical school. I wonder if I'm going to fail or decide I hate it and drop out. But you saying that you're going to give it a shot has increased my resolve to go ahead with my plans, because I'd be upset if I screwed up, but I'd hate myself more if I didn't try at all. I kinda feel like I have you encouraging me (even though you barely know me) and I want to do the same for you.

It's going to be hard. It's going to be stressful. And there are going to be days where you'll feel like you can't make it and should just quit. But I TRULY believe you can do this. I know you can. And I am SO proud of you.
